My first issue!
The good
This is the first issue of Batman I got I've always been a batman fan but I didn't have the money to get but now I do and I am already really impressed. This story fleshes out what Bruce was doing when he fist came to Gotham and before he became Batman it's an interesting choice for a zero issue and it's really interesting. What makes this even better is the appearance of one of batman's old enemies (although I'm not saying who) but what makes the choice even better is the fact that they appear one issue before the big story that they have ties too. This issue is also pretty clever because Batman infiltrates this group but yes he is caught out but the way he's spotted is pretty clever. There is also a bit with Bruce where he's developing his gadgets including the timeless Batarang! It's interesting to see Bruce develop this and it's also interesting to see Bruce's first meeting with James Gordon. There is also a bit at the end where we are left with a cliffhanger that I hope will be answered in Death of the Family. Greg Capullo's art really fits the tone really well and the action scenes are really good.
The backup is really clever it follows the 3 robins (apart from Damian) and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) it follows the appearance of the first bat signal and the reaction of each of the Robins. James Tynion IV manages to achieve the personality of each of them in only a few pages Tim Drake is pretty smart and smug, Jason Todd doesn't like stealing and doesn't like to kill people and the same with all the other Robins, Tynion defines their personalities perfectly. Andy Clarke's art I mean wow it is so good it just reminds me of Stephen Bissete it's so good to look at and I love all the textures to it.
The bad
Nothing I'm glad started buying this series.
5 stars.
