Spoiler warning.   And not the kind that you think. This is the issue where, after months of teasing, the new Batgirl is revealed to be Stephanie Brown.   Personally, I have mixed feelings about this issue, and none of them stem from the writing. The book does well in depicting Steph's struggles with maintaining a normal life as a college freshman, versus taking up the heavy mantle of the Batgirl. And it's a struggle where she expectedly makes errors in her effort to the role that fell into her ...

At least the Cover's Nice 1

I'm kinds sick of DC and Marvel writing so many female characters obsessed with the way they look. I'm betting that the writer of this book Bryan Miller hasn't spent a whole lot of time with the opposite sex, because "Batgirl" is something strait out of a stereo-type textbook. Batgirl's story and dialogue seem kinda shallow. Theres not really anything to like in this book aside from the name and the costume. And those two things can never carry a book on their own. ...

    Nice Try 1

I wanted to like this book a bit more than I did.  While there was not much hereto keep me coming back, there were some things good enough to mention. My favorite thing would have to be the way Stephanie deals wth the dual lives. I could actually get into the book more if that continues to be the focus of the story.  Unfortunately, as it happens with all books that start that way, I have no faith it will stay that way. The rest of the book was just ... void. There were words and pictures, but ...

Who is that Masked Girl? 2

When I heard that Batgirl was getting another monthly I was hesitant. I adored the character when Babs was under the cowl but could never connect with Cass, no matter how much I wanted to. So when it was announced that a new Batgirl was coming and her identity was withheld I wasn't quite sure what to think. The first issue of the new series is a great intro. It gives some basic background info so that everyone can follow along, even those of us who have been out of the Bat Family loop. Miller's...

    Really, Really Good. 0

I went to the comic shop for the first time the other day (I've been ordering trades online), saw this issue and decided to pick it up. The only Batman stuff that I have read before this was the War Games story arc, so I was a little nervous about not being caught up on everything going on in the Bat-world. Luckily, this issue explains enough of the back-story that it makes sense to a new reader like me. It was very well-written and showed a good amount of character depth such as Stephanie's "ad...

Liked it more than I thought I would... 0

To be honest, Ive always been one of those people who has frowned upon any of th goofy spin offs like Batboy, Bat Girl, Super Boy, Super Girl, and X-Babies. (hahaha ok well im sure x babies is horrid becaus its in the $1 bin) Yet when I saw the cover art to BatGirl number 12 by Stanley "ArtGerm" Lau I thought I would at least give the first issue a read through. So that is what I did.  Starting off it was your typical small time problem to open up the story to have bat girl come in and save the ...
