Good Old Fashioned Western
How many people remember Bat Lash? Apparently someone at DC did, because 40 years after he came and went, he pops back up in a four issue miniseries called 'Bat Lash: Guns and Roses'.
Aside from perennial favorite, Jonah Hex, western comics rarely get their due, but as unlikely as it may seem, 'Bat Lash: Guns and Roses' is a straightforward western with no genre blending (no horror, no sci-fi, etc.).
But this is no homage to DC's past; no, this is actually co-written by Bat Lash co-creator Sergio Aragones and western novelist Peter Brandvold, and drawn by another 50 year veteran who worked on many of the original western comics, John Severin.
The first issue sets everything up, Bat Lash is the romantic cowboy type, but his interest in the local land baron's daughter is not to the liking of either her father, nor the corrupt local sheriff who wants the girl for himself. A pretty simple, standard Western set-up, but one that still works.
Time will tell whether the remaining issues in the series can breathe life into these old tropes, but given the quality of the first issue, I'm optimistic.
