perfect choice, people are saying he looks too young but...this isnt the dc comics this the cw dc tv universe. to have him around for the next 10 years are so cant have him be 30.
Yep
Character » Barry Allen appears in 5077 issues.

Yep
No, because he appeared on Glee
That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard.
He's not even that much a recurring character (I think, well....... based on what these good men said I mean)
So he doesn't have super powers?
Pretty much yeah, he'll just be a recurring character I think
So he doesn't have super powers?
As far as I understand it. The 220 episode (or whatever) he is going to appear is going to serve as backwards pilot to his own series. So he probably won't get his powers until the very end of that episode and his powers will be featured in his own series, but not very much inside of Arrow.
...At least I think.
I really thought Arrow should and would stay no-powers. It just feels like a great show for that. I don't know. I can't exactly see the Flash working without his powers. I really don't know if they can or will try to pull that off.
Whatever though I guess. All we can do is wait see. I'll admit I'm nervous. I really thought someone like Nightwing would serve as a better spin off. Or even Deathstroke eventually :o.
I don't want to be angry, but I just don't see it visually. I don't know anything about Gustin's acting creds, I'm sure he's a good actor, but he just doesn't look like Barry Allen to me. He's too young and pretty rather than handsome and square jawed. I will obviously give it a chance, but I just don't see it. Especially compared to the other two candidates. But hopefully I'm wrong.
Why DC, why!?! Why cast a young man in a role of a character likely based of the New 52 Flash who also appears to be a young man? Why cast someone young with the outlook of a show lasting (hopefully) as long as Smallville giving the actor/character the chance to age and grow as a character instead of casting an already older man to get laughably older with the longevity of the show? How dare you use foresight! No, this atrocious DC. I refuse to accept this "kid" in a role I haven't see him in based of off a picture where he isn't even in character. For shame DC.
He seems like as fine a choice as any. I actually don't really like the idea of expanding Arrow's universe (the show has many flaws; perhaps giving it a spin-off isn't the best idea). But if they're going to be throwing Barry into the mix, Gustin doesn't seem like a bad choice.
This is interesting, but I hope the show doesn't get bogged down with having too many Superheroes/villains per episode. A decent Superhero show needs balance.
@zadoulo: It's okay, we live in a world where hair dye exists.
@darknightspideyfanboy: thanks for the heads up
@drellassassin: Not that the Arrow producers care. I mean, look at Black Canary. If they won't bother getting her to dye her hair blonde, why would they even suggest it to the guy playing Barry?
@captain13: And Grant Gustin isn't? Matt Barr was actually the best choice. I can't believe they cast this pretty boy for such a crucial role. Probably to gain viewers in the Glee fandom. Kind of how when they cast the guy from Teen Wolf as Roy..
@randomsuperuser: No, because at least this guy could convincingly play a nerd who is too afraid to ask a girl out. Flash is not a stud.
I think he'll be great but if this is the guy who is going to potentially move over into a Justice League movie where Affleck's Batman is going to be an experienced, grizzly Batman. Surely they should all be at similar places in their hero careers? Why don't they just cast Betty White as Wonder Woman and cover the whole age spectrum?
lol I know right, dye can easily fix something like that. Besides, if Marvel can get away with casting Samual L. Jackson as Nick Fury I think people can live with this casting :)
I've seen his acting in CSI: Miami and with his over all look and voice, I can't see him as Barry Allen. At all.

Sigh, Barry Allen.
F*ck off and die, Barry.
Barry Allen is awesome and it's great that he's alive.
Uh huh, OK, Geoff. Whatever you say.
How am I Goeff Johns just for saying I like Barry being back? I'm sorry we all don't have the same opinion as you.
Because there's no reason to want Barry back other than buying into the garbage that Johns has been pushing since Rebirth and his Flash run.
I understand that you want Wally West but is it wrong that I liked Barry even before Johns's stuff?
No, of course not. I liked Barry too (though not in Johns stuff).
It's wrong to want him back. He served his purpose well, and he was given a perfect send-off. He has no reason to exist any more. His stories are done. His relevance as a character is over. He won't evolve, and he'll stay stagnant for the foreseeable future. He is simply a remnant now.
Would you be happy if both Barry and Wally were the Flash?
I always thought of Barry as the original Justice League flash, and Wally as Grayson's buddy. Never really liked the idea of Wally being on the JL with Bruce and Clark and Barry non existence. Just my opinion.
Exactly.
I dunno about this. I feel like the show so far was trying to make it similar to a Nolanverse type of thing, where everybody is just extremely skilled and there are no superpowers. Take Deathstroke for example. He's got no super-soldier serum. And Count Vertigo was a drug dealer rather than some oddly-dressed dude who messes with your mind. But now all of the sudden they're introducing Flash, who is insanely powerful? Doesn't seem right. But I guess we'll see how it turns out.
so Arrow is getting super powers? this could go either way.
no problems with the casting
agreed
I like how people complain about Flash being too young compared to Cavill's Superman and Affleck's Batman, yet people who complain about Cyborg being treated like a teenager in the New 52 when he is the same age as Wonder Woman and in his 20s have their complaints fall on deaf ears.
Good to see the hypocrisy. It makes me warm inside. I chuckle at your pain.
@g_man: But that's what I'm saying - - they kind of have to mention "The Flash" in the news releases to make everyone excited that "The Flash" might be zipping around in Star City. But I haven't seen anything that really says he will be there as anyone other than Barry Allan.
@komickev said:I've only read a couple articles about this. Is the FLASH going to be appearing or will it only be BARRY ALLEN? Will it be the Allen character BEFORE he becomes the flash? Will they mention a speedster hero being seen in the world before he actually appears in episode 8? I'm guessing if it is the Flash that we won't see anything near the traditional costume from the comics. I love Arrow so regardless, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other. When is what's-his-name (from Teen Wolf) going to become Arsenal (since the name "Speedy" has already been taken)?
I got this news directly from Warner Bros. The email they sent me had the subject "THE FLASH Casting News." They also included this wording:
We’re excited to announce that Grant Gustin has been set in the role of Barry Allen (aka The Flash).
If they were only casting Barry and not Flash, I don't think they'd mention him in the text and subject. Although, since Ollie isn't called Green Arrow, would anyone call Barry The Flash. Also, who knows if he'd even get powers right away. They might just introduce the character and either give him powers in his third appearance or try doing a separate pilot.
He don't have blonde hair :(
They have this new thing called hair dye, when you use it , it changes hair color , so they can make him blond don't worry.
I hope they make this Barry, comedic so he will add just a tad of lightheartedness to the darkness of the show already.

I was happy when Wally was going to get a new identity. He didn't even have to be Flash, and it was fine.
To replace a character like Wally with a remnant like Barry was simply an awful decision made by an idiotic manchild.
Agreed. Wally is the superior Flash
I don't have anything to contribute. I just like the 3D looking tunnels that CV makes when you quote people. I just want to see it grow some more.
I didn't think they would go for a superpowered theme universe, thought they would keep it as "realistic" as possible like Nolan's Batman. Interesting development!
