Should Barbara Gordon Walk Again?
Edited By gmanfromheck
yes!!
its been enough time...
there is absolutely no reason for Babs to still be inthat wheelchair... i've been through this on the forums before, there are a dozen or more ways for her to walk again, with bionics or not...
Hell, Batman himself has access to Kryptonian technology that could 'reset' her back to her prime in half a second or less... then we have people with advanced healing energies / factors that could give her a transplant to repair her nerve endings... how about Cyborg? he didn't have any legswhen they originally attached the bionics to him... if he has them, why not Babs? it's not as if Bats couldn't afford it...
it's more than time for her to be up and walking again... get her back into the Batgirl outfit where she belongs!

I just find it interesting that she was shot 21 years after her introduction and now it's been 21 years since she was shot. Hmmmm....

yeah, that is pretty ominous... and as you said, Zatanna could fix it, or there are a half dozen other ways for her legs to be fixed...
i do think that this "Cure" storyline will result in her walking again, especially with the sheer amount of the Anti-Life Equation that she now knows about on earth...

"G-Man said:Exactly. The whole page about the phantom pain is just too much for a coincidence. And, as I mentioned in the video, she wouldn't or shouldn't go back to being Batgirl and there already is a Batwoman. She can stay Oracle. Oooooor, why not become BatMAN? If Maya Lopez could wear a padded suit and dress as Ronin..."I just find it interesting that she was shot 21 years after her introduction and now it's been 21 years since she was shot. Actually, I'm kidding about that.
"I also think that if she could walk again, she would not be a super hero again. She admitted to Cassandra once that she was really stupid when she was younger. She lacked the ability she should have had to be safe."But she's lived and learned... plus what happened at the end of that oracle issue would make her want to suit up again, IMO

yeah... the phantom pain bit did make me really think...
this issue was one of the best i've read in a while, and i do really hope that it ends in Babs walking again...
we know who will be replacing Batman after all, so if Babs can be walking again, maybe she could be the sidekick that she , and HE, always wanted her to be... and make a lot of fans happy at the same time lol
i left that deliberately vague, for those of you who don't want it spoiled lol

cant imagine her in a robin costume D:
she'd have to be Batwoman, but for that the other ones gotta get out of the way
"wasnt it said that Batwoman was supposed to take over Detective Comics anyway?"Yes
"for a whole year."G-Man said:
"Voidheart said:well then if the current batwoman isn't capable of such success then they could bring in the old and successful one (wheels) give a polish and viola, one year of success, plus, answer to your question."wasnt it said that Batwoman was supposed to take over Detective Comics anyway?"Yes"
Barbra became a better character after being crippled in my opinion. As Batgirl she was corny and a bit annoying. As Oracle it seems like the DC writers put more effort into making her an intelligent/tech support type character, as opposed to just another Bat member with crazy acrobatic skills. However, I believe she could still fit in this role even with the use of her legs. To me it seems pretty silly that with all the resources the Bat-Family have, they have yet to come up with a way to overcome her condition. It wouldn't bother me if Barbra Gordon was once again able to walk (through whatever means). This issue was pretty bad though (bad as in awful). One thing that I thought was interesting (besides the Phantom Pains) was the mentioning of the Anti-Life Equation. Hmmmm
"Even people in their real life who have lost limbs or feeling in them have mentioned phantom pains. But Gambler did you mean you liked this issue or didn't like this issue when you called it Bad?"Bad as in awful.
Don't know. I think it'd be pretty stupid, but whatever, it's a comic book. If people can die and come back, then I guess they could do that. Besides, the KIlling Joke was just a one shot that DC decided to make into continuity. I guess they're regretting it now.
If Barbara has been introduced cripple I would say she never needs to walk but she was not...so I would like to see the real Batgirl walk again.
I remember her as Batgirl and she was pretty goofy and silly, trying so hard to be as good, if not better than Robin and Batman's equal. Looking back, I don't think the writers/editors back then got female characters. It's almost embarassing to look back at how Batgirl, Hawkgirl, Supergirl, Wonder Girl and Wonder Woman were handled. As much as I would like to see how she would be something more in the Batman family now - what would she be? Robin? Flamebird? Batwoman? Huntress? Or something new entirely? I was disappointed that she was shot and crippled; but at the same time, she just might be a role model for people who don't have the means to "fix" their situation. Cyborg was used as a positive role model for kids that had prosthetics. As Oracle, she has become such a strong character and support character to just about every other character in the DCU.
Besides, for a guy who works alone, he's got a pretty big family...and everybody wants in...
She should get her legs but not the Batgirl costume, she should remain been the Oracle but an Oracle that can kick anyone's ass.. Literally XD
That's what I think :) Or Maybe she'll be female Nightwing XD I mean, she is training with two sticks :P
Anyway, the thing is that I like the new Batsy Girl a bit more than Barbie as Batsy girl :)

Yes
But G man is right she should not become bat girl again because like dick grayson who went from robin the boy wonder to nightwing she becaome a hero in here own way.
It would be pretty surprising if Barbara walked again. From what I know DC wants Oracle as their handicap superhero
Paul Dini had this idea of putting Barbara Gordon in the Lazarus Pit to revive her...I thought it was a great idea, and we pitched then-Batman editor Denny O'Neil with these drawings of that costume design. The idea of using the red instead of the traditional yellow was meant to invoke the idea that coming from the Lazarus Pit, she was in a way, more compromised as a character...And...that went nowhere. Denny shot it down, because, according to him, everybody loves Barbara Gordon as Oracle and as a handicapped character. The theory was that DC didn't have enough handicapped characters, so they weren't going to do anything with Barbara as she was. And the design went into the drawer. It was also mentions in another article how they receive mail from fans who are disabled and how they appreciate the character.
Hopefully DC's initial intention for making Barbara handicap had nothing to do with Professor X. And look at him he's walking again. As appreciative as handicap fans might be of Barbara, the could like her even more if she was making attempts to walk again, going through the procedures that many handicaps go through so that they can someday walk again.
I think she should but thats cause I had a father who lost his legs and was a military man at that so speaking from a real human experience after putting your life on the line time and time again even when she could have just given up and never done it again. Hell Yeah let Barb do some dancing I am sure Nightwing is hurting right now. *wink wink*
It's great if people in wheelchairs can relate to her. Just like we have characters of other races. It does bother me when it's obvious that the character is meant to appease certain groups. I just think Barbara is her own character. I don't know if she should be the poster superhero for disabled people. Then again, she has been doing fine for the last 21 years. It's a tough call.
