The Badger comic was a combination of several comic genres and was somewhat of a spoof on super heroes. Included was creator Mike Baron's actual in-depth knowledge of martial arts.
The Badger was mostly set in Madison, Wisconsin, where The Badger's original publisher Capital Comics was situated, and where Mike Baron himself actually lived. The city and "State Street" were faithfully depicted.
Norbert Sykes was a Vietnam veteran who suffered from multiple personality disorder. "The Badger" was just one his personalities; a vigilante who was able to communicate with animals. One of his quirks involved calling everyone he met "Larry". It was later revealed that "Larry" was the name of his abusive stepfather.
