AvX VS5
THE GOOD
While its silly that the first intro page to every single issue of AvX Vs is "WE HATE PLOT, BLAH BLAH," then have significant plot related fights and conversations, I won't fault AvX at this point.
The first story, Angel v. Hawkeye, was enjoyable. Art was easy on the eyes, and the quips and actions scenes were easy to follow and interesting. I'm glad Hawkeye won in a slightly underhanded way, and it sets up for his eventual incineration by Phoenix Emma, which explains why she took such harsh measures to take him down back in the main series.
As for Storm v. T'challa, it made me kind of sad. While the art was a little hit or miss (Is it that hard to draw Storm's face?), the story was well worth it. I was glad for the last 2-3 pages, and the last panel made me genuinely feel for their marriage (despite vocal opinions on the matter), with her wedding ring in the dirt, and the conclusive sentence.
THE BAD
Despite some art being hit or miss, it was a thoroughly good issue. I was hoping for a little more about Storm and T'challa and their love, but I guess I expected too much. I was still pleased otherwise.
THE VERDICT
While a lot of people say AvX is evil and hell on earth, especially this pointless series, as this limited run reaches its end, it finally found its purpose, with fights ending on emotional or good notes (Unlike Magneto v Iron Man, Namor v Thing, etc.) and battle dialog being interesting or funny. Though I do wish this series could have gotten more mileage out of its raison d'etre, especially with the Phoenix 5 (only one appeared in the entire series), with one issue left with some mystery fights left besides Wanda v. Hope, perhaps my wish will be granted.
If you have been enjoying AvX, I wholeheartedly recommend this issue. Especially if you like any of he characters involved.
