Proper Japanese Title: ブイジャンプ
After Hobby's Jump failed to properly draw a sustainable audience in its coverage of video games, manga and other topics, Shueisha made another attempt in 1990, launching V Jump (then not using the English at the forefront) as a special issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. Initially very Toriyama-centric (from Dragon Ball to Dragon Quest to Dr. Slump), even these early special issues did not reach their target sales and again the official launch of the magazine was delayed.
In 1992, the magazine was rebranded as V Jump, with the V standing for "Virtual", and after these proved successful enough, the magazine was properly launched in 1993 with its July issue. For the relaunched long-running magazine, see V Jump.
