30 dollars...30 DOLLARS!
30 dollars, if I hear it again I might punch someone and I don't need a box to make me do it either. Avenging Spider-man is a great series with a perfect mix of heart, comedy and story. The annual tried to do that, I really do think they tried, but it fell short. I had to read this since I'm a Thing fan and have a warm spot for Spidey too, who doesn't? The story revolves around two brothers, one sensible, one dumb, finding a box that causes the city of New York to turn more violent than usual and fight. Spidey and Thing get caught in the mix when Thing, under the mind-control of the box, goes after Spidey for 30 dollars he owes him, and it will be referenced and bad-joked about on EVERY page. It got really annoying. Speaking of that, let's discuss the writing; as I said, they tried to capture what Avenging usually has, that heart mix I mentioned and did a bad job of it. The jokes and dialogue are...well, awful. You have 2 of the biggest mouths in the Marvel universe you better put them to use. This crossover should have been a hilarious, fun book but it's more like watching a bad comedian. The story is okay but mostly just a way to get Spidey and Thing going at it. As for the artwork it's ok as well. It's not really worth mentioning. I really wanted to give this book a 3 but I changed it to 2 and half because as I said, it's an ok read but the potential that was given by crossing over 2 of the mouthiest, funniest guys in Marvel, this should have been much better.
