Team » Avengers appears in 7699 issues.
I have two rosters that would work for me.
1) The redemption team- Yellowjacket, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Quicksilver, Scarlet witch, Vision, and Battlestar
2) The best team- Captain America, Iron man, Thor, Wasp, Yellowjacket, Hawkeye, Vision, Scarlet witch, Beast, Black Panther, Storm, and Quicksilver
I always wanted to see a team of Avengers led by Cyclops. I think that would rock. And now that Iron Fist is on the team, I always want him to be.
Captain America
Iron Man
Ms.Marvel
Black Panther
Storm
Iceman
Firestar
The Vision
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
She-Hulk
Thor
The Falcon
Black Widow
Echo
Ares
Daredevil
Ronin
Spider-Man
Hank Pym
Wasp
Ares
Dr.Strange
Luke Cage

dmstarz says:
"Although I love New Avengers, I kinda feel that Spidey and Wolvie shouldn't be part of the team so I would like to go 'classic':Iron ManThorCaptain AmericaWaspHawkeyeScarlet WitchThe VisionThis I feel is the ultimate classic Avengers line up."
I can't say I'd argue with your point, though the only characters I like of that list are Iron Man and The Vision.
Captain America
Hawkeye
Spider-Woman
She-Hulk
Nova (1st New Warriors version)
Black Cat
Wasp
Goliath
Ms. Marvel
Iron Man (if it is the 70's version)
with Scarlet Witch and Thor as reserves.
I guess if you went with the old 7 membership number I have a classic team of Cap, Hawkeye, Wasp, Goliath, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch and Thor with She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel as the reserves. I new Wave team of Captain America, Hawkeye, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, Nova, Black Cat, and Ms. Marvel with Iron Man and Wasp.
I did like Firestar as a character but I thought they never did enough with her anywhere except New Warriors and Iceman could be an interesting character but only if he left the x-men while he was an Avenger. I collected the Champions and the Defenders comics when you had Angel, Beast and Iceman together and they were to bad for a while. The Champions were Awesome!
That's the team the had back in the early 90's like in 93. Back in the day old school right?
Here is my team
Captain America, War Machine, Wolverine, Spiderman, Dr.Strange, Thor, Storm, and She-Hulk.

I have to say I like the set-up I would love to see blackcat as an avenger.
Here is my team
Captain America, War Machine, Wolverine, Spiderman, Dr.Strange, Thor, Storm, and She-Hulk. with Echo and Ms.Marvel as reserves.
I decided the team would operate more successful if it just had Captain America instead of both Captain America and Ironman. The two be too much involved in who is the leader. So I replaced Ironman with War Machine and besides War Machine I always thought had more toys and weapons to play with than Ironman.
I chose Wolverine and Spiderman because they can both sense and detect danger. They would be great for scouting and are great scrappers. DR. Strange and Thor would be great at fighting enemies of the magical and mysterical. Storm and She-Hulk well because I like those two. Echo and Ms. Marvel are another great scrapper and Tanker that could come in handing when giant battles happen.
Luke Cage with Spider-Man was a great match, the chemistry was excellent. Of course where Luke goes, so does Iron Fist. I think it would be cool to have Nick Fury the brains behind the team, though he would probably clash with Powerman, so we have to throw someone who trusts Fury and also is cool with Cage, so bring Captain America back to life and throw him on the team. Finally we need a really heavy hitter, I think the new skrull Captain Marvel would be a fun addition.
My aveners would be a smaller branch from a bigger team that takes on smaller missions
1)daredevil (leader)
2)punisher (second in command)
3)dr strange
4)antman (hank pym)
5)winter soldier
6)red hulk
my dream team of avengers
Luke cage- leader
blue marvel
scarlet witch
black panther
spider-man
war machine
captain marvel
This is my Forgotten Avenger team. Hank recruits a team in which everyone has been left behind like he has in space in Ultron
Hellcat- leader (wanted something different) Left for dead in Hell
Valkyrie - asked by Hellcat (spy for Cap, got to build drama)
Wasp- I hate her but Hank still feels for her. Hank was searching for her in the microverse
Wonder Man- made a Revenger team. Ionic energy keeps making him disappear
Hank Pym - scientist
Jack of Hearts - zero room refugee
USAgent - double amputee with lobotomized Venom symbiote
Speedball- more mental than anything
I would love to see a team of characters that are infrequently used today:
Hank Pym - Leader struggling with bi polar disorder, feelings of inadequacy and guilt over past actions (post Ultron merge of course)
Firebird - A strong faith and an awkward love interest for Pym,
Hazmat - emotionally damaged after Avengers Arena
Finesse - Not sure if she's good or evil
Chase Stein - struggling to find his place on a team of superheroes
Striker - arrogant smartass out to prove he's better than everyone else
Victor Mancha - trying to connect with his grandfather, Pym, and not become the next Ultron
Silverclaw - adjusting to the world outside of where she grew up
Hercules - powerhouse and the life of the party
with frequent visits by
Amadeus Cho
Molly Hayes
Klara Plast
Tigra
Vision
Living Lightning
Wasp
My dream roster:
Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Beast, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Black Widow.
Thor, Iron-Man, Captain Marvel, Ultimate Spiderman, Hulk, Quake, Hyperion, Starbrand, Nightmask, Manifold, Mr. Fantastic, Ultimate Captain America, Ultimate Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Emma Frost, Magneto, Ares, Death Seed Sentry, and Black Bolt
My own roster:
Captain America (Steve)-Team field leader
Iron Man (Tony)-Team chairman and financer
Thor (Odinson)-Most physically powerful member
Black Widow (Natasha)-Stealth and infiltration expert
Scarlet Witch-Mystic expert and most powerful member
Hawkeye-Sniper and 2nd in command field leader
Wasp (Janet)-Team 2nd chair and spokes person
Antman (Hank)-Chief scientist
Mantis-Cosmic guide
Black Panther (T'Challa)-Batman equivalent
Vision-3rd most powerful member and computer expert
Devil Dinosaur (and Moon Girl)-Because Everything's Better with Dinosaurs
Captain Marvel (Carol)-Experience fighting alien invasions
Spider Woman (Ultimate Jessica Drew)-Sneaky way to have Spider-Man on the team without having Spider-Man on the team
Falcon-Eye in the sky and recon scout
A little large yes but A) this is a team whose goal is to protect the entire PLANET, you'd want a larger force to work with and B) Justice League Unlimited made a massive roster work in story telling by revolving the cast, I think it would work here as well while focusing mostly on the first 6 listed.
