Why is there so much hate on Marvel's success?

#1 Posted by Arcadian (376 posts) - - Show Bio

Well... If there's one thing that's been bothering me - it's the fact that everyone who reads DC are hating on Marvel's film success. Why? Well obviously because they're the rival company, but now since Avengers has come out and Kevin Feige is moving forward with the MCU, all the DC fanboys and everyone who are associated with DC in any form are saying Marvel is a success because of the films... Well, that's part of it, but Marvel was winning over DC way back. 1960's ladies and gentlemen, that's when Marvel kicked DC's asses and that's when DC decided to step up. Obviously Marvel wouldn't exist BECAUSE of DC, but people only brag about that because Marvel's had their fair share of glory. Let's put it this way; What if DC started off with the success of films? It'd be the exact same with what's happening now, but the opposite. That's what people don't get. Film-wise this year, since Dark Knight Rises came out, all the Marvel haters decided to spam multiple websites on how "realistic" DKR was :P Sure it was a fantastic movie, but I've gone through so many forums and all these DC geeks just spam the entire pages with "Avengers sucks, Dark Knight was better and realistic!"... It's just hilarious whenever I hear that crap, because everyone knows Avengers was a huge success in which they call it overrated and then pick out another movie that released within the same year, and call it better XD. Another part that makes me laugh is how everytime I mention the Avengers film, haters always say "Justice League is better than Avengers because Superman and Batman are there." - Did I ever bring up JL? It's just too funny when I hear Marvel haters bring up the topic of another company that rivals them, when they know Marvel is successful in both film and comics. Everyone should just get over it - and hey, one day there will be a Justice League film, I mean, Marvel pretty much just put DC and Warner Bros on suicide watch, right? Okay, now I am prepared to take any criticism :)

Yeah, and DC doesn't get any hate.

Hate against anything is dumb, time consuming and, literally, a waste of energy. And complaining about it won't change anything.

I recommend that you chill and ignore the haters, in the end they're the ones that end up winning by pissing you off.

In general I think people hate the Avenger's movie success because of what it did to the Marvel Universe a la AVX.

It happens both ways, Marvel fanboys hated on The Dark Knight when it came out, now DC (and some Nolan) fanboys are hating on Avengers. I personally loved Avengers and was happy the entire time I was in the theater, so in conclusion....

Some people always have to take sides... Marvel vs DC, Xbox vs Playstation, Apple vs Android etc. When something becomes popular (some) people start to hate it too.

It's just like your neighbor, he just bought a 2013 Corvette and you still drive a 1984 Ford Escort with rust patches and a broken fuel guage. You really hate that neighbor now,and don't use the I'm saving gas line, obviously he can afford any gas price. Oh yeah, you hate that neighbor with the 2013 Corvette dont you? This applies to Marvel and Dc comics.

  • Everyone who reads DC does not hate on Marvel's success.......I read both and I do not hate Marvel's success........Well, I actually do, but I also hate DC's success. Due to their separate successes, they are not giving smaller companies (Image, Dark Horse, etc...) a chance at a greater recognition or a desired movie.
  • Again, you are making a very general statement......Not everyone one associated with DC in any form are saying Marvel is a success because of the films. I completely agree with the idea that Marvel's success is due to the movies. Even if Marvel kicked "ass" back in the 60's, there would not be much a difference. The films exposed Marvel to the world greater than the comic books could ever do. Without the movies, any success by Marvel or DC would simply take hold in the comic book community without a great amount of influence on the outside world.
  • The Avengers was overrated, same as The Dark Knight Rises....

Anyway, I am not sure you have been very active on the web. I do not "fanboy" support Marvel or DC, but I will admit that DC is not getting what it deserves. Everywhere, online or in public, people criticize DC because of an extreme amount of misconceptions. Due to Marvel's success with the films, people constantly judge DC without knowing what it has to really offer. I am a fan of both Superman and Iron Man, but nearly cry every time I see the overrated or downgraded perspective of each.

In my eyes, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises were tolerable, but not great. Both movies had a grand amount of time-appropriate things happening everywhere. Non of the movies was more realistic than the other........and both sacrificed too much story for action. I am sure any future endeavors by both companies will result in better movies.

  • My criticism is that you are showcasing a one sided perspective. I could easily make a "Why Is There So Much Hate On DC?" that would be as justified as your topic. Based on what you have wrote, I must presume that you are intelligent person that is trying to go against the "fanboy hate." I thought what you wrote is very smart and honest, but would like you to fight against both Marvel and DC fanboys.

In the end, thank you very much for pointing out the hate on Marvel and it's success. But remember, hate never attacks one side...

I will respectfully disagree.

Here is my opinion: Both Marvel and DC make great movies that compete with each other, thus keeping the universe in a set balance. One movie can be better than another, but eventually balance will be restored.

Example:

  • The Dark Knight Rises will crush Iron Man 2 any day. (Opinion, remember, your views can be completely different).
  • The first Iron Man would easily wipe the floor with The Dark Knight Rises. ( ^"Opinion"^)

My preference is to simply watch movies from both DC and Marvel. It is never really about what publisher I like most, but the characters I want to see.

I am very excited to see the second Captain America and Thor movies, as well as the Man of Steel and Iron Man 3........When the second Avengers and the Justice League movie comes out, I would happily watch both.

Again, these are all my opinions, you have every right to disagree with my views. I simply hope that you enjoy and feel satisfied with any movie you watch...........Have a nice day.

I agree with the Iron Man and Batman movies. I just think that Marvel has (recently) released much more movies than DC did. Maybe Marvel movies were also more successful than DC. However, some of my favorite movies are the Batman movies, they are awesome.

Just my opinion. I also don't care if the movie is from Marvel or from DC.

I would be pissed too if I was a DC fan and saw how bad they are at getting projects rolling. Being owned by Warner Bros, the idea that all their top tier characters do not have a movie already is pretty sad.
