Why didn't Loki try to take over Jotunheim instead?

If Loki wanted a realm to rule so badly, why didn't just declare himself king of Jotunheim, since he was the legitimate heir to that throne anyway? Why bother taking over earth?

Why would he want to rule a bunch of dumb blue giants? He saw Jotunheim as a threat to Asgard, so he sought to get rid of it.

Because that would have made sense.

Think about it. You've been raised in a beautiful utopia full of great food and women. You lack the ability to take it over. You see a similar world full of way weaker beings which you DO have the ability to take over (you think).

WHY would you give up on that for a giant chunk of ice?

Loki was not born of Asgard, but he is Asgardian. Conquering Jotunheim would mean next to nothing to Loki.

Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense why Loki wouldn't want to take over Jotunheim. He may not want to live on Jotunheim but the Frost Giants do have the technology/magic and a huge powerful army that he could use to take over earth or any other world he wants. Plus he could just keep plundering worlds, stealing their tech/magic, and build up the Frost Giant empire until it's powerful enough to take on Asgard.

Earth is hardly a utopia. Loki would probably see it as some godforsaken mudball.

he should have taken it over THEN taken earth, but chances are not many frosties would want to set him up as king considering he killed his father and nearly destroyed their realm.

he was probably bored of "immortals".. and earth made sense as far as upsetting thor/donald blake

Jotunheim is a hick town for the Asgaardians. Loki just sees them as stock troops. He killed his own father Laufey. Surely that shows how little regard he has for his own species.

@Necrotic_Lycanthrope: Is Loki really just a small Frost giant or was he an Asgardian baby stolen by Laufey?

He was a petite Jotun who was nurtured by Odin and his magic.

@Illuminatus:

@infonation:

Loki (at least in Marvel) was a runt child of Laufey. Laufey was so embarrassed by having a weakling baby son that he might have killed him if Odin hadn't waged war against the Jotun. Odin saw the baby and rescued him, hoping one day the little ice giant might help end an eternity of war and finally bring peace between Asgaard and Jotunheim.

Loki, while loved dearly, was insanely jealous of Thor, since he was the biological son of Odin. Because of this and maybe his own repressed megalomania he trid to kill Odin and take over Asgaard, as well as make a deal with Thanos with he Tesseract.

Well the whole murdering their king and attempting to destroy their world may have led to political resistance, not to mention Loki's small stature (by Giant standards) would make him an outcast

I wouldn't take over Jötunheimr, either. All they did was hang around ice, eat ice, talk about ice, say ice things to each other that might send chills down mortal spines.

Loki is such a spoiled little brat. He should have been grateful to Odin for adopting him in the first place. I hope Odin beats him half to death in the next movie.

Because Loki was racist and hated the Ice Giants more than anyone else?

Did you not watch the movie... Loki clearly explained why he was doing it when Thor told him it was under his (Thor's) protection. He deemed humanity needed to be ruled and sought to do it himself.
