a rumour is circulating online and multiple big name movie/comic sites have reported that there is a chance that Joss Whedon's original version of the Avengers featuring somewhere of about 30 to 40 minutes of unshown footage will be coming back to theaters mid august in the form of the much request Directors Cut, just 1 month before its home media release.

Please say it's 2D. That was my major complaint for the original that it was unnecessarily in 3D making some of the scenes too dark to see what was going on. I'd gladly pay $3 less to see it again with added footage, but if the DC is 3D, I'll wait for the blu-ray. Take note of that Hollywood decision makers who troll msg boards.

Marvel must want to take a shot at taking the silver medal spot from Titanic and break up the James Cameron 1-2 punch for top grossing movies. If it really is 30 minutes + of footage I'll catch a $5 matinee and see it

I think this would be a smart move - If The Dark Knight Rises is going to get a lot of money as well or MORE than the Avengers did, you'd expect this kind of thing from Marvel. I can see it happening.
