To many avengers teams

it's turning into an Xthing

I like it. From the Now titles, plan on picking up Uncanny, Secret, snd the straight up Avengers title. I'm not to interested abou the Illuminati so I will pass on New Avengers. I like the variety because each team has a different focus. I am really looking forward to Secret because the premise sounds really cool with the mind wipe missions. Then there is Young and Arena which are completely different characters than any of the other titles.

@TheCuckoo: Do you read them all? Because they're very good.

#4 Posted by TheCuckoo (55 posts) - - Show Bio

@guttridgeb: read Illuminati secret avengers mighty avengers dark avengers avengers academy then stopped after golden age....i can't afford to keep buying them

It's fine with me. The X-Men have been like that for a while now. I'm use to it.

#6 Posted by tahmidk (283 posts) - - Show Bio

im only interested in young avengers... tbh i find the rest of the avengers really uninteresting and borin

I generally wouldn't have a problem with it if each member stayed with each team for a significant amount of time. But every single team is dropping members, recruiting members, switching teams, etc. It does get annoying that this happens every 5 issues. And also what's the deal with the Marvel NOW Avengers; there's like 14 members.

new comic series AAA Alcoholic Anonymous Avengers - Ironman, Ms. Marvel and other Avengers with alcohol problem get together every Thursday in the Stark Tower multipurpose room to drink bad coffee and sit in folding steel chairs. They talk about how many days they have been sober and help each other with their lives with out drinking.

My policy towards any family of books is that as long as the story for every book is good and all of them have a fair number of people who are willing to buy it there can never be too many books. I wouldn't care if there were 200 Avengers books if they all had distinct Hickman level stories and enough readers to support them

#12 Posted by AgeofHurricane (7303 posts) - - Show Bio

Lol. The X-Men at least have a reason for so many titles, the Avengers are only tagging a long in an attempt to stay 'relevant'.

#13 Posted by NightHaunter (111 posts) - - Show Bio

Makes sense to capitalise on the movie and increased popularity, don't think it has lot to do with the current state of the X-Men. They mainly follow different characters so if stories are different enough it should be great.

There are to many and it is turning into an "X" thing.

#15 Posted by Eternal19 (2076 posts) - - Show Bio

No charecter or team of charecters deserves that many books no matter how popular. because at least two of those books will suck. just ask batman and the x-men

The more the merrier. :)

My wallet doesn't like keeping up as I am both an Avenger and X-Men fan, but I prefer team books and I pick out the ones I like or the ones with a character I follow. I'll be broke as hell through January and February trying all the new books, but by Spring I will have my favorites sorted out.

I'm with you, as long as the story's good, and enough people buy it, what's the problem? And besides in a few months we'll find out how many Avengers books are too many.

I'll be checking out Avengers, New, Uncanny, Secret & Dark.

People bitching and moaning about the number of titles baffle me. So there's five or six Avengers titles...buy the ones you want, leave the rest on the shelf. The three main books are Uncanny, New, and Adjectiveless. I would imagine those will be the most "continuity-heavy," or whatever, and have some kind of story-overlap from time to time. The rest are there to appeal to different audiences and to give voice and time to the vast expanse of characters that make up the Avengers' universe. I don't imagine Dark, Young, Assemble or Secret will have very much at all to do with the three main titles, except for the occasional guest appearances ans whatnot. If you're that discerning a reader, wait a few months, read the reviews, and pick out which ones you want to spend your money on. Or buy them all for a month or two and figure it out for yourself which ones work for you and which ones don't. Frankly, I'd rather have a bunch to choose from than just one or two. If there were one or two, and they weren't to my taste, I'd be kind of sh*t out of luck if I were an Avengers fan. No one's holding a gun to your head making you buy all of them. And for God's sake, people...some of you need to learn how to use punctuation and capital letters properly.

I don't see the problem it should give everyone something to read.

Uncanny Avengers, Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, Avengers Arena, Secret Avengers, Dark Avengers. GOTG and Thunderbolts might count as Borderline.

Personally, I am getting Avengers, New Avengers, Young Avengers, and Secret Avengers. Also maybe Avengers Arena, Uncanny Avengers and GOTG.

Still only Uncanny Avengers, Avengers and New Avengers are in any way relevant. Maybe GOTG.

Just like on the X-side the core 3 are All New X-men, Uncanny X-men and WATXM.

No more than batman titles

there's sort of only two Avengers teams really, it's just that a lot of the books are titled weird.

  • Uncanny Avengers should probably just be called Avengers, since it's the book that's most like the classic Avengers.
  • Avengers should be the one called New Avengers, since that's the book with the most new members. Or just be cancelled, since it doesn't really focus on any of the characters and is probably the most redundant of the bunch.

the rest of the Avengers books aren't really Avengers books anyway.

  • New Avengers should be called the Illuminati. Or Secret Avengers, I guess.
  • Secret Avengers should be called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Young Avengers could be called anything else, which would probably be better for giving the team it's own distinct personality.
  • I don't even know how Avengers Arena is an Avengers book.

I'm sure I missed some, but you get the idea.

i don't mind, unlike JLA, the avnegers allows other characters to get into the spotlight. I wish that THOR would be part of other avengers teams, but its no biggie.

with the JLA its always about batman.

He's a regular in both of the ones that definitely count though.

Could he actually fit in to any others?

OF course he would. But it does make sense to sometimes leave THOR out, so that superheros of earth can save their own planet. For the avengers are commonly called "earthiest mightiest heroes".

Exactly. I'm not sure how A.I. fits into the picture. Mighty Avengers basically is a new Avenger team. Avengers Assemble is not a new team at all.

Agreed. I'm sticking to the main series but feel like I'm missing stuff. It's just annoying. bendis' new avengers, were better right at the beginning. One series, One storyline and still a lot of stuff. It went bad, starting Civilwar and Mighty/New avengers...

I don't see why there needs to be 20 superhero teams all based in freaking New York. I'd be okay with multiple Avengers teams if they were going country by country or something.

that's actually one of the things I like about New Avengers, that there isn't so much of one location, since only some of the characters are set in New York, while the others all live in other places; it feels more like the story is set in a bigger world.

I hate that there are so many books. The Avengers concept started off by wanting to have all these big heroes from solo books condensed together into a team book for those who couldn't afford them all but wanted great action packed, big character stories.

What's going on now with at least 2 regular Avengers books, tie in series, ancillary series, young series, as well as everyone's solo books is ridiculous. It's nigh on impossible to keep tabs on what certain characters even look like at times (When exactly did hawkeye's suit change to his movie suit?!).

At least with the mighty avengers vs new avengers books in Bendis' run it was an exciting, unusual pick a side thing.

I never know when books get cancelled but long as they continue I don't mind at all. Waiting for my next run to get Mighty although I hate Superior Spider-Man

#32 Posted by Chapmar (192 posts) - - Show Bio

@kasino: I want to know why Luke Cage and Power man are in the team but no Iron fist. I don't like it.
