In a move that probably doesn't surprise a lot of people, Jim Starlin claims Marvel has reached an agreement and Thanos will be in the 2015 Avengers sequel as well as Guardians of the Galaxy.
Avengers
Team » Avengers appears in 7703 issues.
The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes and foremost super-team... "There came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born - to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Heed the call, then - for now, the Avengers Assemble!"
Thanos Confirmed For Avengers 2
An Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy team up would be good. I really hope Ultron will be the villain in Avengers 3

bad idea
I agree....too soon, no build up, etc......I would say I trust Joss Whedon but he has coughed up crap before....and we don't how much creative control Marvel has over the project.

@cattlebattle: They build him up in GOTG then Bring him into Avengers I don't see the problem, its called character development, if 2 movies can't do him justice a 3rd and 4th won't help.

It would still be more logical to build up the villain thats going to be in the Avengers movie in a prior Avengers movie, I hate the fact that you have to watch all these movies to know whats going on in the other......Marvels scheme realized I suppose. TGotG movie should be about the Guardians coming together, and save the massive villain for later.
That's cool, but then what happens after Thanos? He's such a powerful villain that Ultron or Kang would feel sort of minor.
You tell a big enough story with Kang or Ultron it could still be big enough. In fact I think Whedon has said he wants Avengers 2 to be a more personal story anyway rather than just a spectacle.
@cattlebattle: You mean like how they did with Loki in Thor? That's probably what their intention with him being the main villain in GOTG is going to be.
They said Thanos will be in the movie, they never said that he will be the main villain of Avengers 2. Thanos very well could just have a part in the film, serving as build up for a third movie.
@Jonny_Anonymous: Ultron could easily top Thanos, not power wise but he would make for a much more personal story for the members since he was a threat brought on by one of their own. They don't need to constantly up the power level to keep the story good, Its not DBZ.

Thats different, all the characters that appeared in the Avengers mainly had movies in build up for the Avengers. TGotG is a separate franchise that is going to crossover with the Avengers, and Thanos is supposed to be a huge villain that threatens all of them. I would have liked the second Avengers to be more interpersonal, maybe with a Masters of Evil team comprised of their arch nemesis or something. Not them just fighting alien threats again
@cattlebattle: They have their own movies to deal with personal issues, the whole point of the Avengers is to deal with threats that none of them can face alone like Thanos

I suppose thats why Joss Whedon said the sequel is supposed to be more personal for the characters...well, it might be different now if Thanos is involved..I still wonder if that was Marvels or his own decision.
I believe Whedon has come out and said having Thanos be the mastermind behind Loki's invasion was his own idea.
@cattlebattle: Just because Thanos is involved doesn't mean it won't be more personal, I'm just saying it doesn't really need to be in order to make a great movie. Its far too early to judge yet since neither Avengers 2 or GOTG have even got completed scripts yet and we know literally nothing about them aside from returning cast for Avengers and the villain.
A large purple guy with a Jay Leno chin and gold/blue body armor? That's going to be great.
I'd much rather see an Avengers Vs Assorted Bad Guys plotline.
Having said that, Whedon is consistently good, so maybe he'll surprise me.
Personally I would rather see the Avengers take on a smaller threat (like a returning Hydra and Red Skull or a team of super villains), however if Joss and co want to bring in Thanos in the second film then there has to be something worth doing with him and then have something even bigger for the 3rd one (I thought I read on here that one of the ideas was going to be the Civil War story arc)
Actually I think Thanos for the second film would be a great idea and I think they can come up with a bigger threat than him for the third film. I would actually like to see an army gathered of all the villains that have fought Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America in all three movies plus whatever other villains that are going to be introduced in films that are sequels such as The Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man or any other films that come out in phase 3. And yes I would bring back Whiplash and Iron Monger and Red Skull from the dead because to see them among the group of villains would be bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe full circle in the final Avengers films. All of these villains plus the armies of HYDRA, the Ten Rings, and fire demons and/or frost giants could make a greater threat than Thanos in my opinion.
@vandinejd_1991: No they are going to introduce Ultron in Ant-Man and he will be the Villain in Avengers 3 and it will be amazing.
Ultron could be included in the group of villains too. He could lead an army of machines against the Avengers.

Probably one of many.

Don't think that's the original one I saw, but yeah, it works; thanks.
Point is, given that information, I doubt Thanos will be in it. Thanos is not a "small threat." I expect an emphasis on espionage work; possibly with the inclusion of AIM and / or HYDRA. And considering Winter Soldier will be in Captain America 2, then it could involve him.
