First Reactions to Marvel's The Avengers

Most of us need to wait until May 4th, but some very lucky members of the press, Marvel, and more got to see the world premiere of Marvel's The Avengers in Los Angeles tonight. Twitter is exploding with some major love for the movie, so I thought I'd share some of the best tweets and help build the hype!

@Ericign

"It. Was. Awesome!!"

@firstshowing

"The Avengers - Epic. EPIC! Everyone fights everyone, but it does deliver. Marvel's movies get better every single one. Hulk! HULK!!"

@GermainLussier

"I'd tweet about The Avengers but my body is still recovering from non-stop geeking out. So, so, so much fun (for the most part)."

@Variety_JLD

"Not a false note. Innovative. BRUTAL. And goddamn funny. Hype = believe it.#Avengers"

@slashfilm

"The Avengers is pretty epic. There is probably more action in this film's climax than all the other Marvel movie combines!"

@Remender

"Everything you ever wanted from the Hulk in a movie but never got, get ready. Even my wife was applauding."

"It's concise, fast, full of heart, loaded w the trademark Joss comedy. Best use of 3-D I've seen. Everyone is going to go sh*t nuts over it."

"Just got out of the Avengers premiere. My favorite superhero film ever, no hyperbole."

@ColliderFrosty

"Absolutely loved THE AVENGERS. Was smiling from beginning to end. If you're a Marvel fan you're going to lose your sh*t in the theater."

"Also, the two things that made #THEAVENGERS amazing: the Hulk and the humor. Joss Whedon gets a 10 out of 10 on both of those."

@SethGreen

"So that was AMAZING. Like, double plus awesome. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us all the #Avengers movie we deserve."

Now I want to see it so bad.

Now if only Whedon could save the X-Men movies, I could die a happy fan boy. But I know that's not gonna happen.

@VictorGrey: @Morpheus_: Are you guys both British if I may ask ? Because that's the UK cinema release date for the Avengers. And I have to wait until late May to see it so that it doesn't interfere with my first exam even though I could technically see it sooner. Sad times :(

Tweets from Variety, Empire, Slash Films, and EW are all positive. I haven't seen a negative vibe coming from the impressions yet. I think Whedon pulled it off people.

@WildStyle: There was never any doubt. From my side, anyway. If anyone can control a huge cast, while making them all interesting, it'd be Whedon.

My only gripe was with Widow and Hawkeye, but now, I really don't even care about them anymore.

No problem in having them,. They're more Hollywood esque heroes than Ant-Man & Wasp. Most people love the female super-spy, and Green Arrow popularized the trick arrows.@k4tzm4n said:

I dunno I feel that this may as well be Iron Man 3 Downey seemed to be the only actor with any presence. At least from the trailers.

My little review, no spoilers.

France, the movie opened today. Went across all Paris to watch the movie in original dubbed, no 3D.

Full, every cinema was full. But I had to watch this movie tonight, couldn't wait to an other day. So the worst solution : french dubbing and 3D...

Like everyone who loves comicbook and adaptation of comicbook, I had a lot of expectations about this movie. I was excited and afraid, yes afraid to watch it and in the end, be disapointed, betrayed.

But I had faith. In Whedon and his vision, in Marvel and the efforts they put during this last decade adapting that universe we cherish so much.

Few words can describe what I just saw. But I chose : Epic, Mindblowing, Wonderful, Magnifique etc.

Everything works. Characters ? We know them, we know where they come from, everyone is as we expect them to be. Whedon managed brillantly to bring together those "lost creatures" in a way that feels natural. Plus, the way Whedon treated the two lead female roles of the movie was surprisingly interesting. I didn't expect that much of the two casted eye-candy. I already loved Cobie Smulders, but put a gun in her hands and make her wear a tight SHIELD outfit, I am sold. Dialogues : not "heavy", no great epic speech about heroism, honor, teamplay and other blabla. They talk like you and me, like regular people, nothing seems off. FX (minus 3D, don't really see the appeal) : great. Michael Bay-esque but here, you can actually understand and appreciate the action scene. I got goose bumps twice. Could have been three if I hadn't spoiled it watching the trailer.

Overall : In my opinion, the show felt more like the Thor movie : more serious, dramatic but with those slight piece of situations, dialogues and humor that makes the all thing great. Not boring at anytime. 2h20 ? Perfect duration for a nearly perfect movie. Nearly indeed, because there is a very very important thing missing to this movie for me. But you will definitely notice it, leaving the movie theatre, remembering what Cap' said

The Avengers movie ends. The final credits roll. Cut to a shot of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in his office. Aside from a single desk lamp, the room is completely dark. Cut to a close up of Fury looking over some files. His computer monitor suddenly illuminates his face with blue light as it kicks on unexpectedly. He glances up at it suspiciously. everything remains quiet for a moment, then a vaguely familiar and somewhat weak voice begins speaking from the computer: "Colonel Fury..." The voice pauses. Cut to a shot of the computer screen. There, Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) lays in a hospital bed connected to a myriad of tubes and monitors with Dr. Moira MacTaggart (Olivia Williams) standing next to him... a worried look on her face. Professor X continues his statement: "...We have a problem." Without looking away from the monitor, Fury quietly leans back in his chair with his elbow on the armrest, and rests his chin on his thumb as if in thought... a serious look on his face. The camera holds there on him for a moment, and then the movie screen goes black.

I have not seen the movie yet. This is just my idea for what I think would be a cool post credits teaser made famous by the X-Men/Avenger related movies. Anyone else have any ideas of what they'd like to see at the end? I'd love to read what others think could/should happen next in the series.
