Really NOW! why cant Marvel ever make me interested in the Avengers.
Are people really stoked from seeing this cover? Expect for the surprise addition of some New Mutants and some mysteries yet to be revealed, i am neither excited or impressed. I can't be the only one.
That cover doesn't say anything about Now! it still looks like Marvel then, with the same characters and the same status quo. I thought Uncanny Avengers was the main Marvel book now but it's obvious it just the main X-book or rather a very glorified team-up book. Is it so much to ask for Marvel to change their status quo a little bit and try to bring in new readers who have fallen in love with the movie and never seen an Avengers book before. I am sure the vast female audience who saw the Avengers would appreciate to see more female Avenger's like Storm, Rogue, and the Scarlet Witch? Aren't they Avengers Now!? There are also other X-women who would be perfect for the Avengers; like Psylocke (they really need a powerful psychic), Polaris(a female Magneto who has been an X-men longer that any other woman aside from Jean), Magma (who is just as powerful as Storm but in control of the Earth itself), and Dani Moonstar (with ties to X-men, Avengers, the Valkyrie and SHIELD). So far we have 14 members revealed and 3 of them are women while the rest are white men, except one, Falcon swooping in like the token angel he is. Sorry that's not good enough. Hopefully, the man on fire is Sunspot and the mystery man in shadow is Dr. Voodoo, leaving the other 4 members yet to be revealed to women and men of colour, which makes the cover more sad since they didn't make it on there. Ideally having Storm on the team will fill that quota but again, why stop there why not have another black female Avenger. Like Photon, who not only was an Avenger under the name Captain Marvel but led the team as well back in the 80s. Where has she been and why has she been so under utillized and appreciated. There is also Shuri the Black Pantheress, who could become available since the Black Panther might be needed back in Wakanda. There is also former Avenger Echo would be a welcome addition as a Mestiza (Hispanic/Native) heroine who was a part of the team as Ronin but was removed from the roster after Hawkeye took over that identity.
I hope the Avengers make an effort to start over with Marvel Now!. It's the perfect time to start fresh with some new faces among the cash cows they can't just leave to their own solo books. Really how many books will Wolverine be in NOW! 5!?
