Daredevil Rights Back at Marvel. Could He Join the Avengers?

So, I know Daredevil may not be everyone's first choice when it comes to new members (except mine), but now that his movie rights are back at Marvel (practically), he is the logical choice for an Avenger in Marvel's movieverse. They may give him a solo film, should they choose, or they could take the easy route, and give audiences a brief explanation for him, in a different movie. Audiences are mostly familiar with him, and even if they are not, the concept is does not exactly require suspension of disbelief, which means they could choose to not give him any explanation at all. He wouldn't require much special effects, and his fight scenes would be great if done right. His comic is selling well, and is also one of the best series Marvel has to offer, so using him in a movie would be a great ploy to draw in new readers. He could be installed in the universe as easily as Black Widow. Introducing him as one of the current Avengers' lawyers (Banner, perhaps?), and having him expose himself as a vigilante to the team would be a smart move. Using Daredevil would be a wonderful choice if they choose to go through with basing "Avengers 3" off of Civil War. Marvel has three dates booked for May and June of 2014. One is probably for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, one could be for Avengers 2. Could one also be for a DD movie? Marvel officially gets the rights in January, so it's basically theirs. Fox loses the rights if it can't get a DD movie out by 2013, which is in 5 months. There is no way any professional movie, good or bad, could be produced in 5 months, so the rights basically belong to Marvel, although they can't legally start production for another 5 months. What do you think about DD's rights going back to Marvel Studios? What should they do with them?

Marvel has two spots for 2014, one is for captain america 2 and the other is Guardians of the galaxy. and i don't see daredevil ever being in the avengers movies.

I'm pretty sure the movie rights aren't back with Marvel.

@The_Tree: I think Fox still has a year or 2 left to do a movie or lose the rights

I hope everything about the Daredevil and Fantastic Four reboots just fall out, and results in the rights back with Marvel. Daredevil in a shared film universe, being able to come into contact with Punisher, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage would be the bee's knees. Annihilators movie with Silver Surfer, yes please.

@The_Tree: I can't wait til Marvel has all their rights back, I think Xmen will be their biggest problem to get back

Yeah, it will be. I don't think it'll ever happen without some sort of deal being struck between Fox and Disney. Fox'll just keep pumping out X-Men movies until they've bled the franchise dry. I don't really mind though, as long as they continue to make quality movies like X-Men: First Class. But when every one of their movies begin to plummet to the same quality as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then's the time they should be forced into giving the rights back.

FOX has five months to make a DareDevil movie if they want to keep the rights. There is no way they can do this, so the rights are practically back at MARVEL, although they can't start production for another five months.

Source? Last I knew Fox was aiming to reboot the character in order to keep the rights.

Fox loses the rights on the first day of 2013, so if a reboot is not currently in development, then the rights will be returned to Marvel. Fox can't make a movie in five months.

@Nightcrawler23: Actually they can save their rights by putting it in development and slapping together a crappy movie just to keep the rights which has been done many times before

No way is Daredevil going to be in the Avengers. Maybe if there are the spin-off teams assembled like the New Avengers, Young Avengers or Secret Avengers then he could be used. But for now (and possibly a long while) Daredevil will remain the Ben Affleck film (I still say Colin Farrel played a mean Bullseye), OR the company will pull an Amazing Spider-man and reboot it entirely to be "darker", thus enabling Fox to use Daredevil in other Marvel franchises they currently have the rights to.

Only time will tell, to be honest.

There is no way any feature length film could be produced in less than five months. Impossible.

#17 Posted by joshmightbe (24472 posts) - - Show Bio

@Nightcrawler23: they don't have to finish it in 5 months they just have to start filming in the next 5 months, so if they had a writer bang out a script in a week and put out a casting call, they could very well have it under way in like a month, once its in production the rights are safe at Fox

@Nightcrawler23: his ethic doesn't suit the Avengers, he might be mentioned or alluded to in the Avengers films, but not join the team.

A new project won't be given the green light unless the studio is sure it will be a fruitful endeavor. They will have to campaign for a budget if they want a new DD movie. And yes, the film will have to be out by Dec 31, 2012.

@Nightcrawler23: They slapped the Roger Corman Fantastic 4 movie together with practically no budget and never released it, they specifically made it for the sole purpose of keeping the film rights in 1994.

Superhero movies are more mainstream, now. They'd never get away with any of that.

Or they could do a direct to dvd movie...It would probably be crap..but that counts.

@Nightcrawler23: They own the rights and can do whatever they want with it. They don't care what the fans think and neither Marvel nor Disney have any legal right to stop them so long as cameras start rolling before the deadline.

Have him in the same universe, but not apart of the Avengers.

I don't think FOX will be willing to keep Daredevil rights, he's so unpopular with non-comicbook fans, it'd be purposeless to do so.

#26 Posted by _Zombie_ (10302 posts) - - Show Bio

I sure as hell don't want him to. I prefer Daredevil when he's a solo character.

I don't think they'll ever get them back. That's the reason why Marvel has so many movies, different studios own different rights.Marvel won't be able to produce as many movies if they have all the rights to their characters.

#28 Posted by Nightcrawler23 (775 posts) - - Show Bio

Marvel's primary focus should be the Avengers. It's the centre of their universe and Avengers stories should be the only guaranteed series. The others can be one-shot movies made in the same universe that can get an eventual sequel if the first installment is successful.

It's clear director David Slade thinks otherwise, since just a month ago he addressed casting rumors and said the film won't be in 3D.

Either way, we get a DD movie.

#31 Posted by Gambit1024 (9890 posts) - - Show Bio

DD's rights will stay at Fox as long as they've got a reboot in development, unfortunately... BUT that doesn't necessarily mean that the movie will be garbage. First Class totally opened my eyes to that sort of thing.

Marvel/Disney would make a kick-ass DD movie, no doubt. ...But there's no way in hell that he'd be an Avenger. I would never allow it, lol.

#32 Posted by Tyrus (1083 posts) - - Show Bio

Fox is just like Sony - they should've handed Spidey's rights back to Marvel, but they didn't which is exactly what's going on here with DD...
