I dunno if it's the color artist or the inker, but for some reason I haven't like John Romita Jr.'s art in some time.
Anyway, I'm surprised how cool this main-line series has actually been. Seems a lot closer to the classic Avengers storylines (although I still prefer the line-up and story-arc of Secret Avengers thus far).
Avengers
Team » Avengers appears in 7699 issues.
The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes and foremost super-team... "There came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born - to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Heed the call, then - for now, the Avengers Assemble!"
Comic Catch Up: Avengers 1-3
This is a great concept. I think you guys should do BRIGHTEST DAY or BATMAN AND ROBIN next.
Oh there's an excuse to not pick up "Avengers" #4....JRJR's art. The storyline's been amusing - despite some character portrayal issues - but the art is so terribad.
Good idea for videos. Suggestion for the next one? Return of Bruce Wayne or Batman and Robin.
" This is a great concept. I think you guys should do BRIGHTEST DAY or BATMAN AND ROBIN next. "That would rule.
But please, don't ruin more issues. Use the same scene again. I won't complain!
I can't stand Romita Jr.'s art in The Avengers. It actually takes me out of book. It's severe lack of detail, extremely cartoony look, and apparent lack of effort turn this into a sloppy mess that just makes me really wish another artist takes over soon. For the sake of the book, please.
I still am enjoying the story arc so far and interested in seeing where it goes. But I could enjoy it so much more with better more realistic looking art.
@G-Man- I like this idea, too. Good job

" This is a great concept. I think you guys should do BRIGHTEST DAY or BATMAN AND ROBIN next. "YES!
I need to catch up/ketchup on these!
Great way to catch us up on series we don't read, I did read these books but for future videos I say: "yeah!"
Great concept for a video!
Hate this series though. I really really dislike JRJR art work. the whole time i read this I think, its ok would be awesome to see this done by a good artist, But the writing hasn't been that great on it either. I'm a huge fan of bendis, but its seems he is being stretched to thin these days. after reading secret avengers I would love to see someone else write the Avengers book for a change, and keep bendis on new avengers.
" @sora_thekey: Dude, I have Batman and Robin #1-12 at my house and you have #13. Come over and we can read. "I'm working this whole weekend so I can't sorry... but still I need to read issue #9-12 (I have #1-8)
First off: I think this is a great idea for something new for the videos. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these.
On the Avengers title: I've bought all three issues ( and plan to continue buying these as one of my regular series ) and I'm very happy about where this story is going. The only two things that have actually bugged me so far is JRJR's art that lacks a lot of detail. Not sure, perhaps it's the coloring, I don't know, but I just find it lacking. And the other is the portrayal of Tony Stark in this series. Especially since Fraction's Invincible Iron Man is one of my other regular series.
"I have heard nothing but good things about John Romita JR in the past, but picking this up and reading them I've formed my own opinion that he sucks pretty bad. "
Heh, I definitely know where you're coming from.
The first time I saw Romita's art was in World War Hulk, which along with Spider-man: Back in Black was the beginning of my comic reading days. While there were some things that didn't look too good (and after reading Planet Hulk afterwards, I could see how his interpretations of some characters were off) for the most part, it was actually pretty decent. However, this was probably due to the fact that WWH was basically just all out action craziness. On the panels where it's a close-up of a character, they look crappy and rectangular. BUT in the crazy action scenes, because they're so basic and rectangular, that means he can make some pretty crazy fight scenes. For the most part, I enjoyed his art in WWH, though that may be because of the emotional attachment, what with WWH being the series that made me finally pick up a comic book.
And yet, whenever I see his art in a Spider-man book, it looks terrible. I hate that he keeps getting picked for the big, special issues, because his art just isn't as good as some others out there. Only advantage with JRJR is that he adds so little detail to his drawings, he has plenty of time to draw them, lol
Of the two Avengers books I'm reading right now (the other being New), I'm certainly enjoying New Avengers a hell of a lot more. With budgetary concerns abound, the core book is going to be the one I'm dropping. Its portrayal of Bucky as incompetent being so incredibly different from what it is in Captain America only helped solidify that decision.
I likely the shirt there Mr.G, studying quantum psychics? If I was there I would be only the fewest of people to trust him(because I'm like that) to listen about the time-stream in my opinion(if I read the book).
"No reason? There is one I can think of.... $$$$$$$$$$Great new feature. With Babs' feature on comics to kick off a newbie's adventures into the world of illustrated literature and this feature, there's really no reason anymore why folks shouldn't be able to get into comics.
"
I wanted to pick this series after the fist issue I droped it because of the art I wanted to really like the story the the art kept taking me out of the story the only reason I still have the first issue is because I'm in it
Before the fiasco that was "Image" JRJR drew every book at Marvel with the exception of Avengers and Fantastic Four (bowing out for Perez & Bryne) Now that it's been 20-25 years, he finally gets to illustrate the rest of the 616! I've been a fan of his since I was a wee little lad... He's one of the reasons I draw? Seeing that I'm a pretty good illustrator, JRJR had to have done something right? Have some more "Hater-Aid"
" @Nick-SV(ril) said:I agree as well. I have been reading the return of Bruce Wayne but not the batman and robin comic." @TheMess1428 said:Yeah definitely. "" This is a great concept. I think you guys should do BRIGHTEST DAY or BATMAN AND ROBIN next. "That would rule. But please, don't ruin more issues. Use the same scene again. I won't complain! "
Great concept for video reviews. With so many new series that are out now, it's good to see you give us an explanation of what has gone on in the previous issues. With my short attention span and stupid amount of new weekly comics, now I don't have to go back and browse the last pages of the issues before. Keep this up. Maybe one for the Viltumite War or one for G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero in a month or so.
As far as this new volume of Earth's MIghtiest, I like it. I want to see more Kang and more of the Younger Avengers. Bendis and JRJr have told a good story and you gotta love seeing Romita's Spidey month to month.
I've enjoyed these but their not without their flaws. Bendis seems to only have a strong grasp on some of the characters personalities and the rest are by the way side. But on a better side time travel can be confusing and i havent once felt behind or lagging in that. But then there is the art which feels really inappropriate for this book over all worth buying but not the best team book out there.
@ ImperiousRix i agree, i cannot believe they have such HORRIBLE art on a main comic book like this. The art is just straight up poor. Blocky stiff characters, really bad action scenes, energy blasting off everywhere, cant tell who's hitting whom. Thor looks down syndrome. I can't believe they have this guy as an artist?
Also i am sick of having to read 8 comics to make sense of one comic (making subscriptions a requirement) what ever happened to the one-shot? BRING BACK THE ONE SHOT!!!!!
