On Friday we posted about Marvel's all-new upcoming mini-series AvX VS that will be released in conjunction with AVENGERS VS X-MEN. Rather than publishing all the drawn out fight scenes in the book featuring the main story, Marvel has decided to split the two into two separate volumes. Fans who love seeing fights play out can pick up AvX VS which will feature different creative teams tackling fights between many of the different Marvel characters.

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #1 (JAN120625)
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS, JASON AARON, MATT FRACTION, JONATHAN HICKMAN, ED BRUBAKER
Art by JOHN ROMITA JR.
Cover by JIM CHEUNG
FOC – 2/27/12, ON SALE – 4/3/12

Not to worry, though; Marvel is still promising to deliver a story. Earlier today the publisher revealed two teasers for the first issue of AVENGERS VS X-MEN, set to hit stores in April 2012. Each cover features a different fight between two different sets of characters -- the question is, will we be seeing these fights play out in the first issue of the big event? Based on the reveals from Friday, we are going to go with yes.

The first two characters to go head-to-head in the first issue of AvX VS will be Iron Man vs. Magneto and Namor vs. The Thing.

The first teaser features Black Widow up against Psylocke, and the second (above) has Iron Man up against Magneto. Who will win the respective battles? We will have to wait and see. Check out the full solicitations for the #1 issue as well as both covers. What do you think? Are you looking forward to this big Marvel event? Do you think Marvel's decision to split the story and battles into two separate books

The X-men have those two fights pretty much sewn up.

Without PIS, yeah but this is Bendis, so...

I totes am. I'm their target audience. I buy into the gimmicky stuff (plus they have the digital copy incentive)

What's the likelihood of Tony pulling a win?

Magneto and Psylocke both win in the fights they are in.

Psylocke and Magneto win in those two situations... I still say that the X-Men have the advantage.

Yay IRONMAN vs the master of Magnetism and Black Widow against one of the strongest psychics alive. This seems fair

@The Dark HuntressBendis isn't writing Iron Man vs Magneto, Aaron is.

And given that Aaron wrote Magneto losing to Hellverine and a bunch of 10 year olds with a ray gun I wouldn't count Tony out.

I assume Iron Man will be going into the fight with either a non-metallic suit or some convenient and recently developed anti-magnetism tech. Would be a one page issue with Magneto making Tony dance like a puppet otherwise.

Tony choosing the worst opponent for himself, kinda expected. Prolly wont happen though covers are never reliable

#14 Posted by zero6 (28 posts) - - Show Bio

Spy vs. Ninja, that'll be very interesting to see, especially since Psylocke has telepathy/telekinesis on her side should she choose to deploy these abilities in her arsenal

#15 Posted by cobra88king8 (345 posts) - - Show Bio

@Blizaga101: IDK the whole point of these side books is to have the fights that won't be in the main series

I refuse to accept the existence of the Kid Hellfire Club as canon. It is not my personal canon (and mine is the only opinion that counts on said matter).

The X-Men take both matches unless Shield has some tech to use to their advantage.

Still don't know how The X-Men can handle Thor.

I'm going to defriend any one that buys these books

i still do not get it. so if avx proper is the main book, and avx VS is the fight book, does this mean in the proper book they will sit around and play tiddilywinks and drink tea?

#20 Posted by Morpheus_ (29873 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Dark Huntress: You are going down Fade's route. But for the record, I strongly dislike the Hellfire brats, too.

As for Magneto, Iron Lad recently did handwave him away while wearing an armor that is based on Tony's current one, it's just that most people (including most writers) are unaware of that.

I really wanna say Psylocke's going to beat Black Widow but then again she does have a few trick up her sleeve

Fights that will be briefly seen in the main book will be thoroughly expanded upon in Versus.

I love the premise, honestly. The entire idea of the X-men and Avengers throwing down with a cosmic catastrophe on the horizon is really, really badass. But some of the writers and the fact that I'm on a budget sway me. Oh, and the fact that Jean Gray will come back. Again.

If this event has any solid, perfect ending, let it be with Jean being wiped from reality once and for all.

Are those the covers for AVX, AVX VS or just teasers?

#25 Posted by cobra88king8 (345 posts) - - Show Bio

@WildStyle: That's if Thor is back by the time this book comes around. It's the same as with Civil War, with Thor basically out of commission I'm viewing this as up in the air

I read this in the 80s!

I feel like Marty McFly or something.

It would take a LOT more for me to go down Fade's route lol. I'm relatively opposite of him. I have optimism, as approaching EVERYTHING with skepticism.

It has the potential to be an epic fight, IMO. However, I don't see how Psy could lose against Natasha.

Actually I see ways for Tony to win against Magneto with an armor designed to fight him. That is what he does make specialty armors that lvl the playing field. Not saying he will win but he does have a chance.

I don't see how Thing can defeat Namor. I would like to see an H2H fight between Psylock and Black Widow but unless she has some spy thing to deal with her TP she isn't winning.

Is that the one where Magneto physically matched Hercules?

@Ferro Vida:

The rosters were pretty cool. Avengers: Cap, She-Hulk, Black Knight, Photon, Dr. Druid & Thor (who was severely weakened from a curse from Hela)

X-Men: Wolverine, Storm (depowered at the time), Havok, Dazzler & Rogue. Magneto was kind of caught in the middle of the conflict.

#42 Posted by Morpheus_ (29873 posts) - - Show Bio
@Ferro Vida: No, that's the one where Iron Man beats him up in a suit he made to counter him.

Herc vs Mags was in New Mutants.

@Ferro Vida: Oh, then you REALLY don't want to read it. It made me a bit nauseous to see Wolverine taking the moral high ground and Aaron's placing him on a pedestal. But can rant about this topic much better than I.

I stand corrected. Magneto is the only one that would really turn the tide, at least with Photon there.

Herc vs. Mags was just terrible.

Iron Man vs. Mags has been back and forth for years now. I remember he made an appearance in the Avengers some time in the eighties where he threw around Cap, IM, and Thor. At least I think I remember that.

@The Dark Huntress: Except it ISN'T the moral high-ground! It's Wolverine being stupid and idealistic! Wolverine is an extreme liberal and Cyclops is a moderate realist! GAH!

Again, maybe I don't recall it correctly. It's just that there seem to be several where Magneto does some ridiculous without his powers. Like in the 80s when he takes a punch from Colossus and his personal shield may or may not be down.

#49 Posted by Mercy_ (92704 posts) - - Show Bio

@Ferro Vida: Pretty much. Overall, Schism was pretty terrible. I liked the outcome and the X-Books have actually been excellent since, but the actual even itself...it was crap. And don't even get me started on Prelude to Schism -___-

@Ferro Vida: Forget Colossus, he took down Phoenix an issue earlier from the fight you describe, lol.
