Conclusion Of Geoff Johns Run
After the events of Red Zone, She-Hulk fled as she was returned to her human form. Now the Avengers begin to search for their fellow comrade.
My Thoughts:This is the final story arc that concludes Geoff Johns run on the Avengers series. While his run may not be among fans favorites as nothing monumental occurred, he did deliver some solid stories with great characterization, character development and good old-fashioned comic fun that deserves some recognition.
The first issue involved Hank Pym and Janet who were on vacation in Las Vegas. Hank tries to rekindle their love but seeing as life for a superhero is never easy, he gets interrupted by the villain Whirlwind. It was a pretty decent issue overall.
While She-Hulk has never been a favorite character of mine, I did enjoy this story that centered around the search for her. Once you add the Avengers into the mix, you almost always have an exciting story. Seeing them all desperately try to stop their friend from decimating a city of innocent civilians made a compelling story. One of my favorite parts was the return of Hawkeye. Johns hit his character dead on.
I really enjoyed the final issue which centered around Jack Of Hearts and Ant-Man. The two heroes have never seen eye to eye and eventually come to an agreement with each other but it proved to be too little too late. I loved the ending and although I wish it didn't happen, it was still great storytelling.
The artwork was by Scott Kolins and Steve Sadowski. Kolins handled the majority of the issues but both artists contributed solid work. I liked the coloring of Kolin's pencils a lot but his art did sort of have a younger appeal to it as if it was marketed for younger kids. My only complaint with his work was the way some characters faces looked such as Hawkeye. The chins really threw me off. I don't recall Hawkeye every resembling Jay Leno. Still it was pretty cool artwork for the time it came out and made this comic fun to read.
This was another solid installment of the Avengers series and the conclusion of Geoff Johns stint on the series. I'd recommend reading this and the rest of his run. These are fun stories that deserve a spot in your collection.
