Wiccan's Mommy Issues
The Good
Jim Cheung's art is breathtaking. Everything that he draws is awesome, and this book is no exception. While the art is great and tells amazing stories panel to panel, I have to say that Justin Ponsor's colors in the book astonished me more (which I think it's a first for me).
It is clear that Allan Heinberg knows how to write the Young Avengers (he pretty much made them who they are) especially Wiccan, I do think that Billy is the best character on the team and I like that he's front and center.
I have always said this, cliffhangers make the book, and this book has a great cliffhanger. When a certain character comes into the picture then you better be interested, especially since the character fits the book, but was somewhat unexpected to appear since this is an Avengers title.
The Bad
I love Heinberg's interpretation of all these characters, and I'm okay with the fact that all these teens paired up ( Stature and Vision, Patriot and Hawkeye and Hulkling and Wiccan ) but the 'gay scenes' seemed very forced and although it's supposed to be touching, Speed interrupting the tender moment makes it all even worse.
Another thing about this book that somewhat bothered me is that the costumes for Captain America and Iron Man are all wrong, but there's a disclaimer explaining why, which is why this I overlooked it.
Also, the Shadowland preview is unnecessary!
The Verdict - 4.5 out of 5
Wiccan's perspective is very interesting for me since he's my favorite Young Avenger, and after House of M Scarlet Witch became a very interesting character for me. So this mini series is now my major 'event'!
