Avengers #20 - Hail Hulk!

3

Norman Osborn is back and he wants a piece of the Avengers. Can the mighty avengers find out where Osborn is and what he has planned for them?

Norman Osborn has H.A.M.M.E.R. at his side and wants the Avengers eliminated, so the Avengers search for him, and fall into a deadly trap.

The Good

I love how this issue plays out. I love seeing strategy in a fight and not just brawn vs brawn. Osborn and H.A.M.M.E.R. put together a great strategy to try and take down each of the Avengers. The book has incredibly solid writing, and I loved watching this issue play out.

The pacing, more than any other book I read this week, was brilliant. It flowed incredibly well and at no time did I feel like the book was jumpy. That's the number one thing I love about Bendis as a writer. He knows how to put a solid issue together every single time.

The Bad

I've always been a big fan of Daniel Acuna's art, but in this issue, it just isn't doing it for me. I feel like it's a bit out of place and doesn't represent all the characters very well. Captain America, Vision, and Iron Man look great, but everyone else doesn't fit in, especially Rulk, who looks like he comes out of the Silver Age of comics more than anything else. It's a bit disappointing, but I think it's just that the team, Bendis' writing and Acuna's art just clash with each other in this issue.

The Verdict

While I liked this issue, I was a bit disappointed in it. Both of the main creators on this book (Bendis and Acuna) are people in the industry whose work I love and respect, but they just didn't work together on this issue. I loved watching the strategy and planning that went into trying to take down the Avengers and I thought the pacing was great in this issue. Sadly, one of my favorite artists, Daniel Acuna, just didn't work well on this issue and it seemed like a clash of styles. Overall, it's a good read and I mildly recommend it.
