Powerless
Avengers Academy #8, takes place before issue #7. In this issue, Veil, Hazmat, Mettle, and the gang, come across the video of Tigra getting beaten by The Hood online. We get Tigra's reaction and then the reaction of the kids, who then find Robbins and give him a small taste of his own medicine.
THE GOOD: This has been a consistently good title since issue 1. It's interesting and it feels like a breath of fresh air with all of the other huge team books. Parker Robbins gets some face time and we kind of get an explanation as to how he's not in jail. The best part of the entire book, however, was seeing Tigra react to the leaking of the video, and in the end, seeing how she handles it. Cristos Gage makes you care about characters such as Tigra and the new students. I think he has a good handle on how each person should be written in this book. At the end of the issue, we get a huge twist, which I didn't really know what to think about it. After all, this all happened before the previous issue, which is why I can't seem to think it will not have much of an effect.
THE BAD: When I opened the book to the recap page, it tells you it all takes place before issue #7. That alone kind of made me think of this as more of a filler issue. Parker If what happened in this issue is his motive for going after the Infinity Gauntlet, it isn't very good. Another thing is the ending of the issue, which ends with Tigra expelling a couple of the students for what they did to The Hood. It's a huge deal actually, but since it happened before issue #7, and no one mentioned anything about anyone being expelled in issue #7, I don't see this having many repercussions. Now, as much as I like the artwork, I did feel like some of the later panels seemed kind of off when it came to certain character's faces.
Overall, I am glad to be picking this book up month after month. The writing and art are both solid every single month, and it really is picking up steam. Just because this isn't about Steve Rogers or isn't being written by a super- star writer like Bendis, I believe tihs could be going under people's radar. This book deserves a chance because it has great potential. I really recommend you pick this book up.
