Issue #3 finally raises the stakes 0

Out of all the current Avengers’ books, Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, the main one was my least favorite. The last two issues have not been up to par with the interesting dichotomy of New Avengers’ or the black ops team of Secret.I can safely say that changed with this issue. After learning that the offspring of the Avengers’ will destroy the world and that an elder Hulk is behind Kang’s actions of warning the Avengers, issue #3 starts with a bang and ends with a deafening explosion. ...

John Romita Jr. is killing this book... 0

I want to like Avengers, I REALLY do. The story that Bendis is trying to tell is a good one, and there's some genuinely great moments in this book, like the brief moment of banter between Noh-Varr and Spider-Man. From a storytelling perspective, this book is great, if a little bit cluttered. The problem lies with the ugly, ugly artwork of John Romita Jr. It's like he's not even trying anymore. The first issue was okay, the second issue was bad, and this third issue set new standards for the word...

That cover price stings a little... 0

Is Marvel attempting to rip us off?  Unless you're a die-hard fan of both Bendis and the Avengers, the 'Oral History' added content is simply not worth the extra dollar.  With a 2.99 price tag, this book would've gotten an additional star in its rating.  Having said that...  The GoodA hilarious and charming perspective on having a super hero landmark in your city begins this action-packed issue.  The art and colors remain vibrant, and just as you'd expect, the dialogue is spiced with a good dose...

An Artist Change Would Do Wonders 1

Plot & Action: A throwdown with Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen while our beloved Avengers still work on the whole time machine. Yeah, that's about it really. Like "New Avengers," it's a lot of action with little plot progression from Bendis.Character Work: Spider-Man + Bendis dialogue = A win most of the time. It's just funny stuff which works. I always enjoy watching Bendis handle Spider-Man/Spider Woman. It's a nice sibling like relationship. The Protector was also pretty well handled he...

    AVENGERS ASSEMBLE......................uh, hello? 4

And there came a day, a day unllike any other, when Earth's Mightiest Heroes found themselves united against a common threat! On that day, the Avengers were born, to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand!  These foes are known as the Editors, Bendis, and John Romita "JR"  The third issue to the main team of Avengers comic within this so-called Heroic Age and after reading this issue, its a bold fullblown fact that there is absolutely no effort, and I mean NO EFFORT! , make sure ...

This series is just getting worse! 1

Story: First off I'd just like to say that the preview theatre voices were stuck in my head throughout the whole issue. The Avengers are fighting Apocalypse and his crew and it seems that the time line is severely messed up. They all keep fighting until Apocalypse and his crew are randomly teleported away. There have been time related disturbance throughout the city. Noh-Varr build the time machine that they need. At the end Killraven appears with a sword. Writing: The reason the story section i...

    Avengers don't bother 1

I want to love this comic. Why? Because I am a traditionalist in that the Avengers is the "main Marvel group" and they represent the most interesting characters Marvel Universe has to offer. I mean, in the ideal world, of course. In reality, this series (albeit, we are only on issue #3) is pretty rotten.  It seems that almost universally people are disliking the art. And I can understand that. Frames seem cluttered and random. The faces of the characters are unique to "Junior." In other words, t...

The Avengers Have Seen Better Days Than This 1

In this issue, time continues to rupture even further as the Avengers face off against another timeline's Apocalypse and his Horsemen. Plot progression takes a break to make way for an action-packed issue, but both the writing and the art fail to fully deliver.  This is not to say nothing good is to be found here. As usual, Brian Michael Bendis writes a good Tony Stark. The quips may be a little overdone, but Stark remains as cunning and intelligent as ever. It's clear from Stark's reaction to S...

    A Work in Progress 0

I'll do my best to contain the JRJR bashing to a minimum in this review though my previous reviews for issues 1 and 2 do not veil my large distaste for the art, as it does Bendis a disservice. The Avengers time travel tale stays fresh in this issue that perfectly balances action and plot development. With lapses in time triggering disturbances, it was cool to see a personal fave, Apocalypse, in action against Earth's mightiest heroes. There's also a lot of comical Spidey moments here, and the te...

"Next stop: our apocalyptic future" 0

Be sure the check out my review of The Avengers #2.  100 Words Or LessApocalypse and his Four Horsemen have traveled through the timestream to the present day and the Avengers do battle while Iron Man tries to figure out why they are here. The team figures out exactly where in time they need to go and half the team find safe haven to continue re-buliding the time machine. Meanwhile, the other half are disbatched to deal with other time-related disturbances in New York City.  So Then I Said...I w...
