I told you, it doesn't work that way!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This may be the best AvX Tie-In that I have read to-date.
At times the art wasn’t 100% to my liking, but it certainly didn’t distract from the story being told.
If I get one thing out of this entire AvX event, it will be that I have a much deeper respect for the Red Hulk. His character is as impressively “deep” as his “powers” are incredible. No joke. He may be even more incredible than Green Hulk/Banner - especially in the current Jason Aaron run.
Red Hulk’s intelligence and military expertise is highlighted in this issue. We have to remember, as he explains, he is much more than, “just a hulk”. Captain America and the Avengers have simply been using him for his brute force - which comes in real handy… but this is all out war - and war takes strategy, not just punching.
One other thing I would like to mention is the “flow” of the book - it is unlike that I have read recently. There are A LOT more full panel thoughts coming from the Red Hulk - a lot less talking (and speech bubbles) - until he gets to the more chatty characters… This style gives way to a lot more uninterrupted panels of art, which is nice - once you get used to the art style.
While this issue could be ignored, as it simply adds side-story to the overall event, it should not be missed. You have to realize that “nothing major” is going to happen during this book, but that does not stop it from taking chances… chances I was happy to read. In fact, this may be one of the best AvX books in the event. Period. It is far better than most of the direct event issues.
Either way, don’t miss out!
