Aurora, the twin sister of Northstar, was a founding member of Alpha Flight. She suffers from a split-personality disorder, which has caused her to be caught in precarious situations. Edit
History
When Jeanne-Marie Beaubier was a baby, her parents died in a car crash. She was separated from her twin brother and taken to Quebec to enroll in Madame DuPont’s School for Girls after she was adopted. Sad and depressed with life there, introvert Jeanne-Marie tried to kill herself at thirteen by jumping off a roof. But instead of falling to the ground, she started flying. Unaware that she was really a mutant, Jeanne-Marie thought her flying was a miracle from God. The School’s headmistress, Soeur Anne, thought of it all as blasphemy and Jeanne-Marie was disciplined for it. This caused multiple personality in Jeanne-Marie, and a second, extroverted persona emerged. Jeanne-Marie snuck out of the school that night, and came back three days later, but couldn’t remember where she’d been or what she’d done. Further discipline caused Jeanne-Marie to repress her second personality, and later she became a teacher at the school. Her other personality returned eventually, and while in Montreal a pair of muggers went for her. She quickly took one out while the other was defeated by Wolverine. He invited Jeanne-Marie to meet James MacDonald Hudson, who was forming a team of superhuman agents for the Canadian government’s Department H. Jeanne-Marie was accepted as a recruit with the codename Aurora, who soon found out about and tracked down her twin brother, inviting him to join as Northstar.
She has recently appeared brainwashed by the Children of the Vault alongside her brother, but was rescued by the X-Men.
Powers
Aurora can move and fly at superhuman speed. When concentrating, she can accelerate her body to a velocity in direct proportion to the amount of kinetic energy she has tapped. Aurora could technically reach 99% of the speed of light, but she wouldn’t be able to breathe, and her body would suffer from wind and friction. Her skin can stand speeds up to at least mach 10 without injury. Formerly, by coming into physical contact with her brother, Aurora change the rate of acceleration of her molecules to let out an extremely bright burst of light.
Aurora’s powers have evolved from simply generating light to being able to turn herself literally into pure light itself, which can bring inner peace to others. If these powers get used up, she can still able generate light and alter its intensity.
