The Atlantis Attacks Omnibus is a 544 page hardcover collection which presents all 15 chapters of Marvel's Atlantis Attacks crossover which stars pretty much everyone in some way or another. The book also reprints the Saga of the Serpent Crown a story written by Peter Sanderson recounting the story of Set the Serpent God.

The storyline is grossly inconsistent and at times struggles to even follow the promise of Atlantis Attacking. A very misleading title as the Atlantean involvement is more of a sub-plot and diversion for the real villainous scheme to raise Set. But despite that there are good moments in there, certain issues work and others are fun enough but there are also inexplicitly dull or tedious chapters. Also, two chapters feature artwork by Rob Liefeld which is never good. Despite a few good issues in the mix, the story is letdown incredibly by it's seemingly rushed ending which includes two characters of Marvel lore who are incredibly obscure (Naga and Atum the God-Eater) saving the day. Just don't expect a satisfying ending.

The Saga of the Serpent Crown is a bit of a tough read. It ranges from stories starring the Celestials and Gaea to compressed re-tellings of various stories featuring the Serpent Crown. There's not really all that much here, but it would really benefit the book having it at the start so people actually know who Naga or Atum are. But with that said the finale of the Saga of the Serpent Crown also ruins the end of Atantis Attacks so it's probably wise it didn't go up front. Or since the end was so disappointing, it doesn't matter. Anyway, these are nowhere near the calibre of the High Evolutionary solo stories that were included in the Evolutionary War omnibus and offer little new insight into the Serpent Crown other than a chronological account of its existence.

There's also a few more bonus contents included. There's a bunch of "deleted scenes" included in the appropriate parts in the omnibus they range from Captain America and the original Human Torch's reunion, a scene with Firebird forcing Atlantean invaders to retreat and an actually rather relevant scene starring Andromeda which alludes to and makes sense of her involvement in the X-Factor chapter. Most of these are inconsequential, the Torch scene is nice but also came across as making Captain America sound like a disinterested jerk by not even knowing that Toro is dead.

Despite including the above, there's actually at least one scene that's been removed from the book. In the West Coast Avengers issue, there is a jokey sequence with Hank Pym and U.S.Agent where they are looking for Atlantean troops and instead stumble on one of the High Evolutionary's troops. This was a joke about how the previous year's crossover was completely irrelevant and forgotten about by all the characters now. Anyway, that scene is neat but it's not in this book for whatever reason and nor is it in The Evolutionary War Omnibus.

This is a nice enough book, it's great seeing the Byrne issue oversized and there's some good moments in the book, but considering the price I honestly think there's a lot more good that could be done with your money. This book doesn't really cater to any specific fan, while you've got nice Avengers or Spider-Man moments in there they end up doing nothing. Even Namor, the obvious target audience for a crossover concerning Atlantis, is absent for most the crossover. So, only really get this if you're a completest or like the sound of the premise but just expect some incredibly wonky moments cushioning the great parts.
