"There's beer on the plane Logan."

Apparently the Heroic Age is here, even though the X-Men are stationed in their old base in San Francisco, so really this is pre-Utopia.

    What You Need to Know.

This is a 5-issue limited series, focusing on the Astonishing X-Men.  Warren Ellis writes and Kaare Andrews draws.

    The Good.

The story actually wasn't that bad, even though it's completely out of continuity.
The Interaction between Scott and Storm is at least mildly entertaining.

    The Bad.

The Women in this issue are drawn and depicted as mainly sexual objects.  The curves are outrageous, the size of all the characters is either over-emphasized, or too small in the first place.
I realize Emma Frost likes her revealing clothes, and that's fine, but she's over-sexualized throughout this issue.
Storm would not be sitting at the breakfast table in a towel.
The art is awkward to a fault.  It's a shame, because the story wasn't that bad.

    The Verdict.

The story is entertaining, but the art takes away from the whole experience.  The preview for this issue was literally in the middle of the book.  It's new reader friendly because it's the first issue of a limited series.  If you have the extra cash then you can pick it up if you want it, but if not, you're not really missing much.  The story is out of continuity and will probably have no impact whatsoever in the X-Men or Marvel Universe.

    2.5/5

      Review: Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis #1 0

After a puzzling rash of "mutant births" in Mbangawi, the X-Men go to investigate. But they're in store for a thick net of political intrigue.  The Good There are some good quips here, particularly the line about the "20-year-old condom" and all the jokes about Cyclops' general dweebiness.  Andrews brings great storytelling and an unusual style that really gives the X-Men a fresh look (and that's combined with D'Amarta's colors). You also have to tip your hat to Ellis,...

An Amalgam of Many Good, yet so Many More Bad, Things 0

Ugh! This issue drives me insane. The ironic thing is, it's not just the fact that it's bad that drives me insane; it's that the issue has quite a few (very) good things going for it, but they all get dragged down by a poor plot with (mostly) off-key characterization and some quite appalling script choices. Let's take a closer look at this, the first issue of the Astonishing X-Men 2010 volume.  What was good? Storm! Holy cow. Let me just get this out of the way: I think that Kaarre Andrews' depi...
