Having not read the last few issues of astonishing im going to review this as a solo issue.
Let me start by saying how good does that cover look!!!!!!!
Ok then on to the review , seeing this as an issue on its own i really liked it i thought the "previously in astonishing x-men" helped fill in the blanks for me. The main thing though that makes me love this issue is the interior art, I absolutly love it but there is one pannel in the book that actually made me say out loud wow and that is on page 9 not including the advertisments the image of storm is flawless in my opinion the level of detail is justmind blowingly good.
As for the story i thought Warren Ellis has done a great job and i think he has captured certain characters perfectly like Emma Frost who has some of my favorite lines in the book like when she is talking to scott about mind games and how its the worst one she's played and she replies " no, its not. You simply havent noticed the others, because- -" i though that was so good and like i said before captured Emma perfectly.
I think though that there are only a couple of flaws in this book and they are to do with Bianchi's art work he draws Emma in diamond form a ew times and for some reason her clothes turn to diamond aswell, i wonder if this is poor character research or was this always intended to happen.
I would seriously recommend this to and non astonishing reader, even though ive missed from issue 25-28 idont feel like ive mised anything major by reading this thanks to the introduction i would give this an 8 out of 10 or a 4 out of 5 to keep in the set up of this site the only thing that let it down was me having not readthe last few issues and not knowing what the ghost box is, but all in all a very good comic and a must have for any fans of Emma frost of the x-men.

The X-men in Warren Ellis' run of Astonishing find themselves in China on the hunt for the killer of a mysterious mutant-like being. This issue picks up after the fierce battle battle between the team and a group of mutants after a friend of theirs: Forge. The story takes an interesting twist as new light is shed on the origin of these hideous mutants and how it relates to Forge. The strength in the storytelling lies in the dialogue as much speculation arises as to what Forge's true role is in the whole situation. The conflict of confronting an old friend as a potential enemy is approached very nicely as a combination of the unsure attitudes of the characters are presented through Ellis' writing and Bianchi's art, building tension to the menacing final panel that leaves you dying for the next issue. This was certainly a strong step in the story but could not be completely satisfying as it was merely a transition into the home stretch. With that said, I like where this is going so I'm excited about the next part. Certainly worth a read, but I recommend starting a few issues back if you want to understand the complete story
