More like Confusing X-Men, amiright?
Like everyone else, ever since the image for this month's cover was released I've been pretty curious about what's going on. After all, it's 1990s Storm and present-day Cyclops. The good news is that the cover is not a lie. In fact, I think it's an actual panel with the background photoshopped out. So it's not like Marvel pulled a bait-and-switch on us. But what does happen leaves me extremely confused! Unlike the Logan/Jean kiss in Grant Morrison's New X-Men which made sense under the emotional circumstances this one seems like a cheap fan-service cop-out.
What has me more confused than the ending is why no one on Utopia (there are at least a half dozen observers of Storm's arrival) notices that Storm's haircut is wrong. They DO notice that Scott some weird abilities he's never had before like being able to make his optic blasts look like the lasers that come out of blaster guns in sci-fi movies and that he can block Storm's attacks with his blasts as well.
So I'm left wondering if it's a dream or everyone was under some kind of telepathic attack. The absolute last 2 pages were what saved this from being a 2/5 for me. It leaves the possibility of a very intriguing story (if a bit derivative of Final Fantasy 6 - think mutants = espers - although the analogy isn't a perfect one)
