What is the necronomicon?
I don't know about Ash and the army of darkness, but Necronomicon is a book created by H.P. Lovecraft in his Cthulhu mythos. It is a book written by a mad Arab which is said to contain the knowledge about the great old ones like Cthulhu. Necronomicon is the archetypal "bad book" from which people read incantations for summoning evil creatures and demons and such... It was first mentioned in the early 20th century, and since then it made its way into many modern fiction works.
