Zauriel Makes His New 52 Debut

@fadetoblackbolt: If you read the Phantom Stranger comics would know that they are not his real family. He met the family of Philip Stark and took a liking for them, because that was all he wants most in his life, a family, have a normal life and after discovering that Philip was a serial killer, Phantom Stranger killed him and sent his soul to hell, right after possessed the body and assumed his identity.

It would be best to read the stories before making jokes, don't you think?

The most amazing is that the DC there for almost 80 years and has gone through several crises,although all of them the publisher still exists and selling very well indeed .. look at the numbers

@takeluutzen: I see no similarity between the designs,this new Zauriel design seems more an angelic version of Assassins Creed.

Even though I'm not 100% comfortable with DC having created Zauriel in the first place, (angels shouldn't be comic fodder) at least his look is not as lame as before.

The Phantom Stranger has a wife and kids now? Oh DC, you are funny.

DC will be lucky to be around in 50 years the way they're going.

they probably got rid of it to distinguish him from the Hawks. i liked all of his looks but they all seemed messy. he just has a lot going on.

Ralph isnt really a throwaway though. Its true that his creator didnt know DC had Plastic Man already, but he said that was only the reason why Ralph wasn't called Plastic Man. its reasonable to assume that had things gone differently, Ralph would have been one of the "Silver Age Reboots" like Hal,Barry,Katar,Ray etc.

This design looks like the Redeemer.. Redeemer looks more awesome though

I think he was reffering to the fact that he literally is (well, was) a throw away character, Morrison wanted to use Hawkman in his JLA run but editors didn't let him being that the character was so convoluted (and I think this was back when the whole "Hawk Avatar" thing recently happened, so... yeah...), so he created Zauriel.

But how the character was created is meaningless to his/her value, I mean, Ralph Dibny is also a throw away character, given his creator created him without knowing that DC owned the rights to Plastic Man, but he's still an awesome character, same thing goes to Zauriel.

Wow now that's an example of a character that looks actually GOOD for New 52's rebooted world. Now how about we get some more pre-Flashpoint characters in the ranks now? I'm anxious.

Donna will come back one day. not so sure about Helena though.

oh a serious (or more serious) note never hated or cared for zauriel. i think he's a cool character in design, powerset and concept but he just didnt do it for me. saint walker is a far more inspiring and compassionate spiritual character. the christian angle is major negative for me and i've always was more interested in ancient gods than angels. but since i read stranger guess i'll see him soon

Hmm, interesting. I have the first 4 issues of Phantom Stranger; I've always loved the character, and since we're not getting a Spectre series I figured this would be the closest New 52 equivalent to Ostander's legendary run on Spectre for the last reboot; but I stopped because it didn't seem to be going anywhere. But if Zauriel is coming back it might be worth checking out, always been a fan...well, more of a fan of Morrison's run on JLA then the character itself, but I suppose the character has always reminded me of that glorious era in comics.

He's better than hawkman

Even if that were true, its my opinion that the "throw away characters," or second-string characters, as I call them, are really what build a universe. Their presence really adds dimension to the universe. It lets you know that there are more characters in this world than just the big guns. Anyway, I always like Zauriel and I'm glad to see that he's back.

I always loved this character. It seems like a lot of people didn't really like him, and I don't why. He was interesting as hell and a bad ass on top of it. I loved how Morrison and Millar both treated his personality, and now he looks even cooler then he did before. This look is great.

Zauriel looks legit. I love the angel symbols. He could totally make an awesome appearance if they ever did a crossover between Supernatural and DC.

Angela in marvel and Zauriel in the new 52, i think i missed a memo or somthing saying that angels are now THE thing of this season.

I love Zauriel! Always felt he needed an ongoing... so good to see him in Phantom Stranger. Hopefully, he becomes a supporting character and its a fitting place for him considering the new origin for the Stranger.

For a guy that has wings like that he looks so bad-ass! I'm guessing it's the hood, hoods make everyone bad-ass (Shazam), it's probably the hood.

"sigh" I love Morrisons JLA soooooooo much. Really hope we get a big 7 JL book thats as awesome as it was sometime in the future.
