In the "Devil At The Crossroads" part 2 of 4 we are taken in a completely new direction with the X-Men and unfortunately, the only thing I could really think about was the bigger picture; why Emplate? Why now? Seeing Emplate in all his gory glory is pretty awesome. He is a villain we have not seen since Gen-X, and he has proven in the past to be an adversary to be reckoned with. However, it does seem somewhat random. While I personally feet that the story is moving in a direction I do not really understand, I trust Mike Carey and I feel he is one of the most underrated X-Men writers in that he really understands these characters. He writes their dialogue very well. If you are like me and you missed the first part of this four part series, you have nothing to worry about. The brief introduction is clear and concise enough to bring a new reader (such as myself) up to speed with a good understanding of what is going on in the present.

Overall, the book was really well written, and the art certainly compliments the story. The main issue I had with the book was, why now? It seems so completely random to have a villain like 'Emplate' to come virtually out of the woodwork now after 'Exodus.' Should the 'X-Men' take a few moments to regroup a bit after getting completely thrown out of the United States? Do you think that the story flows well? Are you enjoying it? 2.5 out of 5
