Writers Hired For Hancock Sequel

Looks like they're pushing for this movie to happen

Last week I mentioned that Peter Berg, the director of Hancock, talked about some ideas he had for a sequel to the movie.  Even though he was willing to talk about it, it didn't seem like he was really in a hurry to get started on it.

We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it.

Something has changed since then.  Today, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Columbia has hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write the sequel.  They say that the plot details are being kept "under wraps."  No word on whether they will take the ideas that Berg was so willing to share with us.  The first Hancock apparently took over twelve years to make and Columbia is pushing for the sequel to be on a faster track.

I think part of the charm of the first was when Hancock was a mess.  When he was drinking and flying into signs.  Now that he's basically 'established' himself as a hero, I'm not sure how a sequel will be as unique as the first.  I'm also not crazy about a third god mucking up their powers.
