'Wolverine First Class: Discreet Invasion Part One' #19
Written by: Peter David
Art by: Dennis Calero
Cover by: Skottie Young

Sometimes it can be a lot of fun to read a story completely outside of the regular superhero continuity. If you are a Wolverine and Kitty Pryde fan, then you are going to absolutely love this issue. I will start off by pointing out that if you have not been reading 'Wolverine: First Class,' but you are looking for a fun comic to read, this is perfect for you. This issue is the first in a brand new story line, which means you need virtually no background information to understand what is happening in this issue. While I may not be the biggest fan of Kitty Pryde and Wolverine, even I can appreciate the great characterization of both these characters. Peter David does a great job at relaying a sassy Ms. Pryde, and clearly arrogant Wolverine. Skottie Young does a phenomenally aesthetically pleasing cover in a style all his own, and Dennis Calero does a wonderful job depicting emotion with the interiors. While I can't say I absolutely adored the issue, it was still a lot of fun. Who says all comics have to be as thought provoking and compelling as Morrison's ' Batman and Robin'? 3.5 out of 5.

I think it's a good test for an artist to try and draw some comic shorts that have no dialog and try to tell the story with just visuals. It's a good exercise to practice body language and facial expressions. I've done a few.

I like the idea of the First Class series. They are fun side stories that don't really need to be taken too seriously. A fun read that doesn't need the Twilight Zone-like twists of the What If comics.

I buy this series for the covers only.  I buy MARVEL ADVENTURES SPIDER-MAN for the covers only.  I'll buy X-BABIES for the covers.  Skottie Young has been one of my favorite artists ever since the Marvel Tsunami a few years back.  His work on HUMAN TORCH was really new and all "graffittied" out.  His CABLE AND DEADPOOL covers were awesome too.  He's a fantastic artist.

I was going to pick this series up today...but I opted for the 4 issues of Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin instead.  I'm definitely going to have to check out the Wolverine First Class stuff, though.

A girl next door (a little girl) buy this issue even without knowing who the hell is wolverine or X men (she just dig cute stuff). I hope she didn't dissapointed by the content though ^_^

I really hate modern X-men, so any X books that are a call back to the good old days…I’m totally down with! This looks pretty great.

I've been avoiding the First Class titles since it seems redundant to retell stories, or slot in stories in a time when there was no room for even more adventures.

The Skottie Young covers are hard to resist.  I've been telling myself that I have the art in all their glory her on ComicVine, and amazingly this cover was included in JUNK (which my credit card is still recovering from).  But I thought the story and interior art wouldn't keep up with the cover.  So it's a pleasant surprise to learn that it's Dennis Calero's unique brand of realistic story-telling.  I seems a perfect fit with PAD's characterisation.

I might wait till the end of the storyline, see if the reviews stay positive and then get them as back issues.  BTW, does anyone know what happened in the previous issue with the Jamie Madrox cover?  I'm not sure if that needs to work it's way into the Madrox page, which I've been working on little by little.

Why isn't Skottie Young getting his own full book?  The guy is great.  He's so Sam Keith.

Because he's doing the Oz books (and possibly some projects of his own :)

@Babs  You said Kitty Pryde "Wants to be 'on' the X-Men".
