Will You Check Into Clive Barker's Hotel?

A new television show could be coming our way.

No Caption Provided
Let me start out by saying I'm a big fan of Clive Barker.  Clive Barker will team up with "Saw" writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton to bring us a new television show, Clive Barker's Hotel.  Like you, my first thoughts were "on television?"  That could...water it down a little but I won't dismiss it right away.

It's been reported that Dunstan and Melton have sold a pitch to Warner Bros. Television and "a number of networks" are "eyeing it as a potential series."  Details about the actual plot are being kept a secret for now.  It's expected that the show will "follow a series of ghoulish incidents at a haunted hotel."

I have to say I'm on the fence.  I need more information before I can make an official judgment call.  Clive Barker is a brilliant man and can come up with some crazy sh--.  The thought of a 'horror' show on television scares me more in the way that it will be a weak suspense show.  Knowing what network finally lands the show could make a huge difference.  A cable network would be even better.

Do you think there's room on television for a horror-type show?  Could it work on network television?  Have you read any of Barker's novels?

I don't believe having this on T.V. is a real problem. Allow me to remind you of Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital (I am a Stephen King fan.) I suppose I should also mention that I believe that there are Dark Tower comics.

If Tales from the Crypt was the Twilight Zone of horror, this sounds something like the... New Twilight Zone. Not sure about this one.
Is it a serialized show or what? I can't tell.

I'm definitely looking forward to this.  Hopefully it's done well. Clive's a great writer and I'm alway looking forward to more stuff from him.  Books of Blood is probably one of my top three favorite books.

I'll try to pass your message on to my brother, who's currently in the fetal position on the floor.

It seems we don't have a lot of horror on tv.  Probably because it has to be toned down.  I really want to be excited about this but I'm more scared that it won't actually be scary. "
Yeah, nothing on TV really seems very scary. Last show that was supposed to be was Harper's Island, and that started out with some tension and then just got goofy at the end. I don't know if you've seen it, but Supernatural is a half-horror show that has a ton of violence and gore in it that could easily be suitable for a full-blown horror show. I'd like to see just how far they could push the boundaries in terms of content (like, don't be sick about it but show what you need to show).  I hope that the show is good and does good. I could go for more horror on TV, especially if it's good horror. And if anyone can do it, Clive Barker can! "

clive barker is a great writer. I have read everything he has written, well all the early stuff. The movie they did of his that plays on tv, the plague. was just alright. If they can produce it well, and keep it from being silly, it might be alright. Maybe AMC will air it.

True, but Dexter is originally a Showtime series, that was heavily edited when it aired on CBS.

I honestly dont see this showing working on one of the network channels (though if I HAVE to choose one: FOX).

If it IS a horror-type show based around a haunted hotel, I could see it doing VERY well on Syfy, especially if they blocked it in with Ghost Hunters. I also see it being fairly successful on Showtime or HBO, but I don't see it getting a primetime slot on any of the network channels.
