Which Mutants Should Be in the X-Men: First Class Sequel?

There are a lot of unused muties from the early years. Which ones would fit in perfectly with the set up in the first film?

Here's one measure of a good superhero movie - - does it get you thinking about what you’d like to see in a sequel? In spite of my early reluctance to go over all the back stories, I thoroughly enjoyed FIRST CLASS and walked out of the theater thinking about what other mutants could fit into this new series' vision of the 60s. There's actually a wealth of material from the earliest years of the title that's been left pretty ripe for the picking. Let's look at some possibilities....

FACTOR THREE

I didn’t realize this until I looked back on the earliest X-MEN issues, but Factor Three was most likely folded into the FIRST CLASS vision of the Hellfire Club. They were a third party of mutant outlaws who tried to instigate a war between the US and USSR so they could establish mutantkind as a new global superpower - - does that sound a bit familiar? Though they were independent of the Brotherhood, there was a bit of crossover in their memberships. Led by the Mutant Master (who later turned out to be an alien,) their ranks included a mind-controlled Banshee, the tech whiz Ogre, the awfully-dressed shapeshifter Changeling (who was reconceived as Morph many years later,) the teleporting master criminal Vanisher, the force-field-fortified Unus the Untouchable and then Brotherhood familiars like Blob and Mastermind (who’ve already shown-up, in retooled forms, in WOLVERINE and X2 respectively.)

== TEASER ==

I read an interview with some of the screenwriters of FIRST CLASS where they admitted that seeing the Vanisher in the early comics inspired them to include Azazel in the movie. Debuting in X-MEN #2, the villain was the second foe the team ever fought and he introduced the concept of teleportation into their mythos years before Nightcrawler and decades before Azazel. He also happened to have one of the most garish costumes in all of comics, so I’m not going to fault anybody for opting to use a character with a cooler look and a potential back-story with Mystique instead. Although, oddly enough, you could actually construe Mystique’s involvement this early in the game as her subbing in for the Changeling, another super-villain with a uniquely ugly costume.

For as frequently as forcefields are used in the comics, no character’s really displayed that power yet in the movies. The ability is the sole ability of Unus the Untouchable, an arrogant Italian wrestler who immigrates to America to join forces with the Brotherhood and, later, Factor Three. He'd make an interesting addition to Magneto's nascent Brotherhood in any sequel - - although, truthfully, it might be more interesting to swap him with the similiarly-powered Armor.

THE MIMIC

The alternate reality counterpart’s from the Exiles has largely eclipsed the original, but Calvin Rankin's still a fascinating part of the X-Men’s early years. Not a mutant, but a science-enhanced human who had the ability to copy any mutant’s ability, this arrogant show-off expectantly stole the original team’s thunder by using all their powers at once. Interestingly, there was a rumor for a while that an actor had been cast in FIRST CLASS to play “Thomas,” a mutant with the ability to mimic other mutants’ abilities within range. Many figured that was Everett Thomas, otherwise known as Synch from Generation X, but the rumor proved to be unsubstantiated. Still, a mutant like the Mimic would certainly be a formidable threat to both Xavier and Magneto's teams -- maybe even a reason for them to ally together even years before the events of X2. Perhaps we saw enough power-stealing in WOLVERINE's vision of Deadpool, though.

MAGNETO’S CHILDREN

No Caption Provided

Though it would take years of revelations and retcons to clarify all the details, Magneto’s children have actually been a part of the X-Men’s business since their earliest years. Super-speedster Quicksilver and chance-manipulator Scarlet Witch were members of the first iteration of the Brotherhood, while the mistress of magnetism, Polaris, joined the X-Men almost immediately upon meeting them. Out of these three, Quicksilver's the only one to have appeared in the movies so far with a very brief cameo as an imprisoned youth in WOLVERINE. The young Magneto in FIRST CLASS is a suave globetrotter and I wouldn’t be surprised if he had dalliances during his various travels that produced children. They'd have to be very young teens at the oldest, though.

There are, of course, plenty of other mutants that could be fit into FIRST CLASS' new time-line. Sunfire, Mesmero, Thunderbird and then Sway, Petra and Vulcan, the other members of MacTaggert's back-up team which Darwin was also part of in DEADLY GENESIS. Which ones make the most sense to you maniacs? Who would you want to see appear in FIRST CLASS follow-up?

I don't much care for the casting of first class.  The lineup bothered me some as well. But it happened, and there's no going back now. Athough it's nice to see Havok and Banshee finally make an appearance.

As far as the next movie, I really think they need to step away from Magneto. He's one of my favorite villains, but he's been in every movie so far, and for me, it's getting dull.

I'd like to see the rest of the originals show up in the sequel.

Why dont we just give Storm an origins movie? her whole back drop could be in Africa.
This would be good. We could then see the Shadow King. I was actually hoping to see the Shadow King in that Storm cameo in X-Men: First Class.
Yeah i'm for it.

If Marvel and FOX is looking for a female that can carry a movie by herself then Storm's there girl
Plus i mean if she does make her appearance in the sequel i think  involving her story with Shadow King and Africa would take up too much of the movies, specially if we are talking about recruiting other  characters or something.

Shadow King is an X-men villain but he was Storm's problem first,so unless they plan on making him the main villain... so be it,but if not just give the girl her own origins.

Have the same little girl in this cameo play her or find an unknown actress or something,if they want to keep Halle fine, but make her have her accent again and give her blue eyes and long White hair,no more short cuts of the modern Storm, unless it's an X-4 Storm.

I totally agree, but after Michael Fassbender's great performance I think that's highly unlikely.

i think it would make sense for the mutant massacre to happen in 2nd or 3rd. then could use sinister with marauders and even the reavers. there a complete story that works with continuity of films and brings interested characters in without being forced on us:) oh and think of all the morlock characters

It's the 70's. So we've got Xavier, Beast & Banshee. Havok took off to Hawaii with a green haired girl and hasn't been heard from since. I think it's a safe bet that a young Storm would be next on the list considering the cameo and that Cyclops & Jean would be easily pulled in there too as new recruits along with the inclusion of Thunderbird & Sunfire....and that one antagonist should be Proteus, the secret child Moira failed to mention to Charles upon their first meeting.....and his very existence is what prompts the government Sentinel program. Magneto & Mystique end up aiding the X-Men against Proteus (who kills Azazel.....the other two, Riptide & Angel had been apprehended and imprisoned on Genosha off panel and Emma Frost left the new Brotherhood to start her own Hellfire Club....which wouldn't be touched on until the 3rd movie)

The movie would go from New York, to Cairo, to Japan to the fictional island of Genosha (with another Wolverine wink cameo in Japan)

In a nutshell:
X-Men
Xavier, Beast, Banshee, Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Thunderbird, Sunfire

Reluctant allies
Magneto, Mystique (who would at one point reveal she either had a baby or is pregnant)

Villains
Proteus, Sentinels, Genoshan Magistrates

For the 3rd (set in the 80's): This movie would be full of mind fraks as both sides are trying to obtain Jean, using their telepathy to manipulate each other. As a distraction, Sinister orders the eradication of the Morlocks by the Marauders prompting the X-Men to intervene, wounding half the team and loosing Cypher in the melee. Too sleepy to finish, I'll wrap this up tomorrow.
X-Men
Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Forge, Dazzler, Longshot (as a mutant)
New Mutants
Karma, Wolfsbane, Cypher

Hellfire Club
White Queen: Emma Frost, White King: Donald Pierce, Black Queen: Spiral (also as a mutant), Black King: Nathaniel Essex
Hellions
Warpath, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch

@Thunderscream: I really like your X-Men line-up. It's really smart. Includes all the X-Men recruited in the 70's minus the ones who were already recruited in past X-Men movies. I'm not sure if Proteus is the best option for an antagonist though, but I do think it's a really interesting idea to suggest that Xavier and Moira hooked up (maybe in the first movie) and developing a story from that. I also like the idea that Riptide and Angel get sent to Genosha. I'd like to see them include a Genosha story line in future sequels if they can.

I also like the idea of Emma having her own students in the form of the Hellions. We know that Emma and a group of mutants are saved by Xavier after Wolverine frees them from William Stryker's base in X-Men Origins Wolverine. Perhaps they might be able to say that some of the mutants captured by Stryker were part of Emma's Hellions. And naturally after Xavier meets them at the base perhaps Emma and her Hellions become part of the Xavier Institute.  This would also be when Cyclops meets Xavier as well. The story does look like it could take place in the late 70's early 80's.  So to me your picks for Hellions are pretty good minus Warpath.

I would love to see PETRA and SWAY, but i always thought that they shouldve used VULCAN instead of HAVOK in the film.

I shudder at the thought they might think of this as a reboot rather than a prequel. :/

Totally agree. She could've easily replaced both Moira and The Man in Black because her story-line directly connects with both the Hellfire Club and Professor X becoming paraplegic, and she could've used her power along with Professor X's and Magneto's to construct Cerebro....

At this point, the movies are so different from the comics that there's no gauging what direction they're going to go next....

..Like, like, wouldn't it be cool if they fought the Morlocks, but, like, Beak was the leader of the Morlocks and Jubilee was like, given tentacle powers, and they fought the Shadow King, but, you know, he wouldn't be all cloud-like like Galactus was! That was so lame! He would be all mechanical - like Nimrod! And nobody could stop him, except Cable, who would be like, Havok's father, who came from the future! And he'd have a wise-cracking computer strapped to his arm called "The Deadpool"! And he'd have a Scottish accent!...

I think Shadow King would make sense; he's technically supposed to be the first mutant bad guy Xavier ever met. Mr. Sinister or Apocalypse or both would be pretty cool, too. (Then again, they gave Shaw a little Mr. Sinister touch with him being a former Nazi scientist, if you think about it)

Obviously they need to introduce Apocalypse somewhere along the lines. Apocalypse is the most iconic villain  in the X-men universe, in the sense that he is a threat to both humanity and mutant kind, due to his 'Survival of the fittest' philosophy. He pushes boundaries magneto wouldn't even cross to achieve his goals, and as an addition he can simultaneously eradicate a group of powerful mutants.  In every Television adaptation- Apocalypse was brought up somewhere along the lines. So why stop now?  I would also reboot the movies that involve rouge. Rouge can easily manifest an arsenal of mutant powers, due to her ability to absorb said powers by touch, which makes her quite a formidable adversary , yet in the movies they dumb her down as somebody who-

1. Can't Fly, or use Super Strength.
2. Whines incessantly about not being able to touch anyone
3. Is AWOL during combat

And that's basically it. Come on seriously?

So basically toy want  a decent franchise rebooted because you're favorite character didn't do what you wanted her to do?
The franchise doesnt have to re-booted when Rogue can
1. Still absorb Powers
2.The cure wasn't permanent (if they leave off at X3)

3. Flying,Super strength..was not hers,it was a power she STOLE from Ms.Marvel
So necessarily she doesn't have to have it because Rogue does just fine now without out them.

4. She has always complained about to being able to touch since from some of her earliest appearances. She use to sob to Gambit all the time. That's just basic Rogue concept.
