This week we will see the second Siege book. In the solicit, Marvel promises "full-blown carnage and madness." They also say that "The Siege has begun and it claims its first victim as AN AVENGER WILL DIE!!"
Oooh, who could it be? You can't have a major event nowadays without having a big death. We know that Thor to got his butt kicked by the Dark Avengers but it's doubtful he'll die. It won't be Bucky or Steve Rogers since Steve was just reborn and they're still dealing with Bucky being Cap. Luke Cage is getting a mini series. Ms. Marvel? Maybe, her series is getting canceled. We know that the Avengers titles are also being "canceled." Perhaps since Mighty Avengers' sales have been lower we'll see one of those members die. But is there anyone on that team that people would really care about if they died?
What about Tony Stark? Sure he's getting 'reassembled' and has that new costume coming but what about that Siege teaser where someone holds a suitcase with the Iron Man armor while Steve is standing behind, looking like he's about to receive it? Could it be possible that just as Tony recovers, something happens? Since Steve insists Bucky has to be Captain America in order to live, maybe he'll become the new Iron Man. Wouldn't that be a twist? Would Marvel make the bold move in killing off Tony Stark just before Iron Man 2 comes out? DC did it with Batman right before The Dark Knight Returns.
Maybe they'll take the easy way out and have a "Dark" Avenger die. Technically they are considered Avengers, at least in the public's eye. What about Ares? He's been on the fence with Norman's plan and appears to have a change of heart after fighting Balder and seeing a beaten Heimdall. You know Norman has contingency plans if his Avenges try turning on him. Or maybe Sentry will die...again.
Who will be the first casualty of Siege? Will the death live up to the rumblings that something shocking is about to occur? Will this character actually stay dead? Which Avenger do you think is going to die?
I thinl it doesn't matter who dies because Marvel will probably bring them back just like they have with other characters. But I think the one to die will be the one that we least expect.
Possibility 1-Okay follow me on this one, I'm thinking Thor dies and he goes to meet Odin again and learns something new about the Odinforce/Thorforce. He's come close to dying and ended up gaining an A** load of power for doing it (check Thor Disassembled). Not to mention he hasn't really being showing any major feats since returning (yea he had a small handful but nothing like he's done in the past before he was reborn). So I'm thinking he will die and come back as the first truly resurrected Asgardian, this will be both be a shock and add fuel to an all out Thor vs Sentry throw down.
Possibility 2- I see Ms. Marvel going down in a blaze of glory while dragging down a few bad guys, possibly in a trap made by the Hood or Osborn using the Thunderbolts. I think she will be turned into a martyr for the cause of the good guys to kinda of rally them together and give them more of a reason to fight. For me a big twist would be if Osborn were to find a way for Rouge to come and take her out in the final show down. This way you make the heroes have to deal with Ms. Marvel's death and the fact that it was caused by another fellow hero.
Possibility 3-They let Luke Cage die (as much as I love Thor, I would hate this one because out of all the heroes they may decide to kill one of the few very well known ones)l ones).

Character deaths can be beneficial for the growth of other characters.
1)Steve's Death = Captain Bucky 2) The death of Janet Van Dyne (and being a Skrull prisoner) did wonders for Hank Pym. I love what Dan Slott has been doing with him on Mighty Avengers ^_^ 3) Bruce Wayne's death has offered characters more time in the spotlight : Batwoman, Damien, Stephanie Brown
Look at it this way, a dead Avenger allows for a new or lesser known character to join their ranks.

I agree, Bucky's great right now as Cap, and I hope Clint picks up his bow again and kicks Bullseye's butt.

I dont think it will be Tony Steve or Thor because they've been blowing this event up as the first time the "Big Three" have fought together in 7 years. I doubt they would make a big deal about reuniting these characters only to kill one off right away. As much as it kills me, i wouldnt be surprised if Ms Marvel died...just as i really started to love her...
If a Dark Avenger does die, then that's getting people into the wrong sense of mind with the line being "An Avenger Will Die". So I hope that this death ends up being someone who actually matters, since killing off characters doesn't say much these days. Remember when we thought that Steve Rogers was gone for good?

i hope its not a dumb stunt like in the advertisements for dark avengers 11 where they said someone would die, but it was just sentry--so he came back in that book!!
So I did call it...although I did mention a few 'candidates.' I'll admit, one of my 'guesses' I knew wouldn't happen. Just wanted to throw the idea out there. I wonder how long we can keep this going without actually revealing who did "die"? It's so much better actually reading/seeing it in the comic rather than read someone's post.

@Korg: THANK YOU! it was cheap and i felt cheated...i was completely expecting a real Avenger (ie Wasp...or even Ms Marvel) but this felt like a cop out (sorry Dark Avengers dont count) and yes it seems like it could all too easily be reversed...
@mister garbage: I dont know...i think the point was to kill someone and make it a big deal but make sure it was someone that could stay dead without it effecting the status quo (like for example we all knew Cap was coming back, it jsut wouldnt be Avengers unless he eventualyl made it back to the team)...and really who wants to come back from THAT kind of death?? this isnt a massive stroke or lost in time or any "normal" comic deaths...this was pretty...gruesome...
I'm so pissed! Because of the ice storms in Mississippi, not a single comic shop in Colorado (or at least the Denver Metro area) is getting this week's comics till tomorrow or Saturday! So I'm not gonna be able to read this issue till possibly Sunday or MONDAY!!!

Wow, I was extremely angered by this comic! I was a BIG fan of the character that died, and I felt like he went out like some punk nobody. Frankly, he deserved better than that. On top of it, the manner in which he was killed was just atrocious. At least give the character a more honorable death! The death scene itself would have been more impressive if it wasn't already done in Avengers: Disassembled. It is almost identical to the scene between She-Hulk and Vision in the aforementioned arc. Needless to say, I was not pleased.
@Yung ANcient One: i completely respect that...I was devastated when Jean died even though the issue was great and the death was done amazingly...I do agree they should have killed someone else (for different reason maybe) :)

It was the bloodiest degradation, at least Vision was a robot and you could weld him back together again
anyway some people do come back from the grave and there's still a chance the Sentry exists stage left
