Vote On Most Memorable Moment for DC Comics' Women!

Cast your votes and let us know which moments are your favorites!

As comic readers who have been reading funny books for as long as we can remember, it can sometimes be tough to choose a favorite comic character. What's even tougher is trying to choose a favorite moment in comic history. I know that for me, I have so many favorite characters that I love for different reasons, and so many more moments in comics that have kept me coming back for more, that it can be extremely difficult to choose just one. However, that won't stop me from begging the question of all of you!  Back in November, the DC Women Kicking Ass blog created an online poll asking everyone what their most memorable moment in DC comics history for a woman, is. The only restriction is that the moment has to be relevant- meaning that events like Sue Dibny's rape and The Killing Joke don't count.

After conducting the poll, DC Women Kicking Ass received 130 total moments. These moments were divided into 9 polls where the top 3 of each 9 went on to the finals. Now, we are down to the final run and 30 moments to choose from. Being a big fan of the DC Women Kicking Ass blog, I am proud and very pleased to host the final 30 moments in a Comicvine poll.

Here is your chance to get in on the action and let us know what you think! The 30 moments have been split into two polls. You will be able to vote for your two favorite moments out of the thirty listed. In order for your vote to count, you must be logged into Comic Vine. You can check out the write ups for each of the 30 moments here.

Click on the two links below to cast your vote, and don't forget to vote twice!

Hmm toughy. Need some time to think on this one.

my Cassandra Cain fanboyism won over this time so I ended up voting for her 2 moments

Edited by Mainline

Are we picking our favorite moment (you liked the best), most memorable moment (left an impression on you), or most significant moment (affected the most things)?

The write-ups for the moments are here.

Whichever one struck you the most. This is a really personal question, and you have the right to vote however you please! :)

@Babs: NO Joker shooting Barbara? or is it not about Great moments but about epic girl power moments?
Edited by NightFang

I say Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) and Wonder Woman are the winers here.

I liked the whole SG dying in the Crisis; though it sucks how much this Kara differs from that one.

How could this not be in there, Wonder Woman showed the world she was an amazon.

@Final Arrow: That's in the OTHER voting thread.

lol we all have our favourite moments

Done and done.  This should be interesting to see which way people are leaning here.
I definitely went with moments that greatly effected the DCU that happened to principally feature female characters over big "moments".
Although if I could vote twice, I'd go with Wonder Woman in New Frontier showing Superman the door.  I loved the way Cooke drew and wrote her in that book.

@.Mistress Redhead.: Agreed

@Icarusflies:  This is just one of those moments in comics that made me pay attention, They showed the side of Wonder Woman that has been missing for so long, I just loved the whole scene.

@Final Arrow: I know, I voted for that moment too. It's more that you didn't know about the voting thread that made me facepalm.

Wonder Woman tells Superman, "there's the door, Spaceman" in the New Frontier

I voted for this one in the first poll because the Wonder Woman is the Symbol of Feminism, and Superman is masculine counterpart, if she says that, it gives to her a kind of power over Sups.

Oracle defeats Brainiac in Birds of Prey #73

I voted for this one in the second poll because she is clearly a mere human defeating a Global Menance, but the worst part here is that no one would probable recognice this to her, so I think that this should be something that the people should appreciate as a Comic Book Fan, I also love this kind of issues.

Totally agreed. I rarely comment on news articles but this was too good to ignore.

Great job putting this together Babs. Is there a link where we can see the hundred moments that didn't make it this far?

Narrowed it down to my top six (and Rucka apparently wrote 4 out of the 6)... two still juggling in the first bracket and four in the second bracket.  Pizza break then I'll decide!

First Bracket - Adventures of Superman #631, were Lois saves a soldier, narrowly beat out Cassandra's fight with Shiva.  I know this is a more obscure moment but it's one of the few in the first bracket that I actively recall to memory on a semi-regular basis rather than having to be reminded of it by the list.  The main reason for the recall was because the issue had two significant Superman feats... his ability to hear a gunshot from across the globe... and his in-atmosphere speed enabling him to catch Lois before she fell... but those points also caused the story and characterization of Lois to stick and I've been longing for a Lois written with the same veracity as a reporter (given that Rucka works for a newspaper) and strength of character ever since.

Second Bracket - Wonder Woman #219, the neck snap, also by Rucka.  The runners up were Zatanna's Identity Crisis actions (significance of ID Crisis), The Hiketeia (the powerful imagery), and happy ending to the WW blindness arc.  Despite the importance of the Zatanna thing, I think it has to be somewhat ignored for a lot of DC tropes to keep on ticking so I sort of willfully push it out of my mind a lot.  The Hiketeia cover is just so iconic but I only found the story just good not great.  The resolution of that WW Rucka arc was spot on but because it was so conclusory I really haven't thought about it since.  The conclusion to Sacrifice as a part of Infinite Crisis has the gravity of an event like ID Crisis, the imagery of Hiketeia (we were bombarded with images of the neck snap), and it was a pretty powerful character defining moment.  Even if it's not your most memorable it's definitely something DC won't let us forget!

Call me crazy, but I voted for this.

Why? Because Waller is a completly normal person (even overweight) but she's fuelled by pure undiluited badassitude.

Her animated incarnation was able to actually scare Batman

Some of my own favorite moments got missed.

Kathy Sutton sending Amazo through four walls of her house with a blast from Barda's spare mega-rod in JLA (current) #5 was, for me, the culmination of Identity Crisis' aftermath.  The supporting cast isn't going to play 'damsel in distress' anymore.

And who could forget this:

He took her legs, but she got his teeth.  BoP #123

I would have to say Mera in the Blackest Night series, did not know she was tough enough to go to-to-toe with Wonder Woman. As a matter of fact she acted like Wonder Woman in that series. By the way here is a drawing I drew of Wonder Woman how is it lol

Gotta be a tie between Sue Dibny's rape and The Killing Joke. :P

Seriously though, how is there nothing about Scandal Savage there?

Diana whoopin' up on Supes and then rearranging Max's view of the world would probably get my top pick. Either that or Kara's sacrifice during Crisis.

Holy crapples, folk. Yeah Waller don't take guff from NOBODY. I love her character in JLU especially in the Finale/Batman Beyond crossover. And she's fighting new gods...Waller rules.

I was gonna chose something else...too late..now that you've reminded me in the preview pic of this great Brave & The Bold (comics) scene with Barbara hanging out with Z and Wonder Woman!^^

Posted by leokearon

Strange that the Killing Joke wasn't mentioned or Lois not believing Supes in Clark Kent in All Star Superman

Hell Yes!!! The Wall is one of my favorite women of DC. Ostrander's Suicide Squad may have been the best ongoing series of the 80's. NO JOKE!
