Voltron Movie Back in Development

Get Ready For the Lions' Roar

It's about time this movie got back on track.  It makes sense that it would be made into a movie.  It seems easier to take a previous created concept and turn it into a movie rather than try to come up with something original.  I'm not saying it's a matter of laziness or lack of creativity.  Most of the ideas and concepts have already been done.  That's why we see so many re-makes or adaptions.  Voltron also has the nostalgia factor.  I'm not sure how popular it was.  I, myself, watched it from time to time.  Actually my older brother was more into it than I was.  I've seen the cool looking lion-shaped dvd sets at the stores.  I've thought about picking them up but it can get costly.  Now that the movie is back on track and Devil's Due is putting out a comic again, it's probably time I do pick them up.

This is what Variety reported:

Fox-based New Regency has put robot project "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" into turnaround.

Ryan Kavanaugh's financing and production venture Relativity Media is in negotiations to back the property, though on a more moderate budget, utilizing the type of cost-effective technology employed in films including "300."

The Mark Gordon Co. still is attached to produce "Voltron," which is based on the popular Japanese animated TV series of the 1980s.

Marks' take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.
