[Updated]: Superman/Batman Teaming Up For 2015 Film

sorry I swore a lot. I swear in real life. And I'm quite passionate about comic book films and comic books becoming more respectable.

Nolan made Memento and a black and white movie before he wrote and directed batman. We need directors like Nolan. Aronofsky and Anderson are two directors I personally think could make great comic book movies. THey know how to make good movies like Nolan. I think comicbook movies need to have those kind of directors. And in fact it's becoming a trend. THe WOlverine is a good example. I honestly thought that was a really good movie (except for the blockbustery last act....)

And btw, I said "fool" because i felt like you were missing the point with Returns. Also, Twilight? What makes you think I read Twilght?

Batman is a great character to explore and use to make incredible work of art. Returns is, to me, the only book that did that. I read it when I started out reading comics. Before that I thought comic books were just random and irrelevant to the rest of teh world. Watched TDK and thought there must be something good in comics. Read Returns and was blown away by the social commentary on the media and public opinions. Is Batman really "good"? Sure, that part where he's beating Superman sounds stupid once you become a fan of comics. But I thought the fight was there to point out two "heroes" who stood for two very different things. Superman wanted Batman to conform and Batman said f*k you. Batman is not entirely right and so is Superman.

Batman beating Superman in a fight shows Batman's intractable stance. He's will over losing. This is an old and less sympathetic Batman. And honestly Batman did not really "beat" Superman. He held out for long but if he hadn't had the "heart attack" Superman would have easily won.

TDKR clearly was not fanservice. When I read TDKR, I don't care about the whole "comic book logic". I love Superman, but this was not suppose to be a Superman vs Batman moment. It was suppose to be the final act of Returns and it just happened to have Superman and Batman fighting.

When I read books like Returns, Watchmen, Sandman, and Vendetta, I read them like I would read a novel. It's great art. And sometimes I still can't believe that something that was as silly as Batman was really isn't silly.

So it's very disappointing to me that WB decided to abandon the Nolan approach. To take DC characters as truly bigger than life. As great art. Wonder Woman and Superman are great material. I just wish WB could have taken a more serious approach to this. I'm not sayin that Marvel is bad or anything but marvel is there to just fulfill our dreams of seeing the Marvel U on screen. I was hoping for something different from WB with DC. We could enjoy a more diverse genre that way.

The Dark Knight Returns was a piece of crap, both Batman and Superman act like a bunch of idiots and both are out of character, the first two books are fine and those two books are mainly why this book is rated so high and of course the fact that it showed that comic books could be a bit more sophisticated,but Miller destroys that with the last two books that seem to have been written by a 12 year old fanboy on steroids it's some of the funniest yet most idiotic and childish events I have read in a comic book that takes it's self so seriously. Am not sure why you would use TDKR in a Superman movie especially in the world they've built, how are you going to convince that Batman could actually beat Superman after they have seen Superman and Zod fight .... you as always would have to suspend all sense of disbelief and dumb down Superman to actually believe Batman could win, even with Krytponite. Also fool and Fanboyism ? hmmm .... why because am not a fan of TDKR? you do realize that am not the only Batman fan who thinks that book is a piece of crap. Am fair and if your going to write Batman and Superman(World's Finest) you better write them right and fair, and if your going to do a Superman vs Batman fight then you better be fair and logical and not let your idiotic fanboyism get in the way as Frank Miller obviously did . I mean sure but they kind of already tried that, you need to get directors that understand the characters and can tackle this projects, not all of those directors are Nolan leveled (Nolan was just starting up when he got the Batman gig), you need up and coming directors that show promise and most importantly understand the characters. I would love to see more comic book writers involved in the writing department, because writing a comic is some what similar to writing a movie.

I don't have anything against the new Superman and his movie (as long as he doesn't wear his underpants not under his pants) but who will play Batman?

@maccyd: I say this as a die hard DC guy, I would love to see a Wonder Woman movie but I can guarantee a WW movie would flop solely for the fact that nobody outside of comic readers really know much about Wonder Woman, yea they know her as a member of the JL but almost nothing about her back story and I think it would be too complicated and crammed if they tried to do it in movies even if she got 3 of them. I honestly think WW is perfect for tv (at least to start) because you could have 23 weeks in a season alone (# of episodes Arrow got) to cover everything on her, then after the JL movie depending on her reception she could get the movie she DESERVES

Just get a great director (Nolan level or higher) and ask them to make a great movie. That's what DC should focus on. Not like Marvel. Don't have to be way too loyal with the source material. Just keep the tone, theme, and origins in check and we should be fine. We don't want to watch a film soley based on the comics. We want something new from the movies. @fallschirmjager: If you add in domestic inflation to Iron Man, according to Box office Mojo, Iron Man made 628 million, it still proves your point though.

TDK and TDKR were both sequels though. Batman Begins only made 375 mil. Iron Man 1 made 585 mil. The only origin movies that out-grossed MoS were both Spidermans, which I think says a lot about MoS (and even more about Spidey! lol).

sequels always pull more money, look at the ironman movies the first one drew in $318,412,101 and the 3rd one $407,144,472. . With the money the studio lost from Superman Returns which cost 270 million to make, and only made 200 million they are very happy with a new film that cost 225million to shoot, and it grosses over 635 million for the first installment ,so i think them bringing in Batman is more of a way to introduce the new Bat and get a start to lead up to the Justice League movie, Not to save the supes franchise which is doing just fine.

It's not financial flop but it's not "The Dark knight". TDK made 1 billion dollar and TDKR also did it. And both movies were far better received by critics and casual moviegoers. MoS is very polarising.

Once again we see a proof that Batman is one and only cash cow that DC have.MoS wasn't as big success WB wanted it to be- not another "The Dark knight" - so they bring back Batman back to bail old super duper man out of trouble.

LOL .... Plenty of people liked or loved Man of Steel, I liked it as a movie but hated it as a Superman movie. That's just me I know others who loved it and that's fine. Superman was a huge success it's the 2nd highest grossing comic book origin movie ever, out performing Batman Begins and Iron Man ..... it's success is pretty good considering the critics were against it, it had World War Z and most importantly Monster's University Inc to fight in it's 2nd weekend, the last Superman movie was Superman Returns and manged to surpass those obstacles. It was not going to make Iron Man 3 or Spider-Man 3 money because it's an origin movie while IM3 and Spider-Man 3 had just come off of big hits you know The Avengers and Spider-Man 3. Any success the sequel might have will of course be attributed to Batman because that just makes sense right ? Yeah no, but am sure he will add his chunk of cash to it, but at least 600 million of that sequel money will be Superman's.

@zeeguy91: Where did I say I disapproved of others liking it ? I merely said "I didn't like it". I personally didn't feel that it portrayed Superman very well, I didn't see the chemistry existing between Lois and Superman, and it was too soon, in my opinion for her to know his identity or to figure it out. The action was good, but storywise, it just didn't do it for me. John Kent's death felt cheap to me as well.

I wouldn't be too worried. The Man of Steel has already established Superman as a powerhouse mirroring his comic book persona fairly well - capable of bringing an entire city down in a battle of epic proportions. That said, I don't see them downplaying Superman ...

As to the awesomeness that is Batman being overshadowed by said power, to that I have one word ... Luthor.

If the powers that be can highlight Luthor, a human, as a credible Superman villain, then Bruce Wayne can be given a definite role to play in a team-up. As to how Batman can fit in to all of that, I see him as the brains working in the shadows to uncover the devious plot, taking out the troops on the ground level of things and giving Superman the chance / intel / device / means he'll need to take out the world level threat ... or some such thing.

Right. No one cuz you say so? Fact is, The Man of Steel has gone "Cha-Ching" many times over. Huge box office success bud. And many folks loved the movie. Myself included. Some fans had mixed views, and yes, some downright didn't like it - these latter were the exception, and most certainly not the rule.

Based on multiple fan reviews, critic's reviews and general comments ... safe to say claiming "no one" liked it is complete rubbish. And that's taking into account that folks who gripe and complain are the same brood who like to plaster their complaints online wheresoever they can. Negativity loves consensus.

They wouldn't be pushing a sequel within two year's time if the film wasn't a complete success. With, or without Batman.

@gor724: Thanks for your comment. For me Avengers is in my top 10, but near the end. I like it a lot, but it has no real substance. When I watched it the first time, I had a really great time in the theatre and really loved it, but it loses a lot of steam, since it is so fluffy and relies to much on the team up WOW factor instead of a real story. Its still a good movie, but that the masses praise it as the best thing ever is a bit much. But to be fair, I am a bigger DC fan anyway and prefer serious movies from comedies.

But back to Superman/Batman and Snyder! He is also the perfect director to give us very iconic Batman shots, righ out of the comics! He loves that visual stuff, even if it is not realistic.

I love the Nolan Batmans more than any other film franchise, but he didn't show us a lot of iconic Batman shots, apart from Rises, where he finally did a few great ones (like the pose on the bridge, or the thing with the muzzle flash). I know that Snyder won't do a cerebral story like Nolan did in his TDK trilogy, but if the story is on par with MoS (which I also loved! would rank it in my personal superhero movies on 3, after Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises), and he manages to make Batman an even bigger badass and show him in a more iconic light, I think we are going to get something great! I am as pumped about this announcement as I was when I learned about Nolan doing Batman Begins! This is the nest step for Batman films and I will savor ever second of the ride, from now until I am sitting in the theatre in 2015!

He's a fantastic director the Rorschach Viedt and Nite Owl scene was awesome, it was almost a shot for shot from the greatest comic ever (yes they changed the ending but it didn't really make a difference to me it had the exact same effect) Watchmen comes to #5 for me on my greatest comic book films of all time and Avengers is off my top 10. I think it was just a very silly movie that has a plot like a point and click video game made for 6 year olds. Just so strait forward, an ending that ties up all lose ends, family friendly, MAJOR plot holes (Hulk was able to control his powers 30 minutes after he tried to kill black widow just because the plot demanded it) And the finally, the acting was terrible. Edward Norton, one of the greatest actors of the generation, and has proven in like all his movies he can pull a Norman Bates (two personalities) and then just replace him with this rom com mother fucker. RDjr just plays himself so its not that hard for him. The human torch was even more of a douche than cap in the comics, he's a comedy guy playing cap what a god awful choice.

Im glad that DC is getting some plans together but they should atleast try to make 2 movies a year. Inestead of just one. They should make MoS 2 and Wonder Woman for 2015. Flash and Aquaman for 2016 and a Green Lantern movie before Justice League in 2017.

Crazy. Exciting. But this is why I would love to see a Batman movie first. A Batman movie that displays the full extent of his detective skills. A movie where his fighting style is graceful, efficient, and badass. A movie where he is in his absolute prime and doesn't have a silly voice. That's he only way to establish him as Superman's equal. This'll be really tricky for Snyder and Goyer. Hope they can deliver. And please, follow it up with a badass Wonder Woman movie.

Toss a Wonder Woman movie in between the Flash movie and the new Batman movie and I think that'd be a great model for DC to follow in building a cinematic universe.

I'm sorry - going to be a little pessimistic about this. While Batman/Superman works well in the comics, I don't think this is going to translate well at all into a big screen movie as a concept. The guys are on completely different levels. Go watch the Batman movies. Then go watch the new Superman movie. A street level human struggles to take down some criminals in the first. The second? An unstoppable superhuman is flying in space and leveling entire cities during fights. How do you really put Batman on Superman's level in a non-comic/animated fashion? What? Is Batman going to fly around on a jet pack or wear his silly Iron-Man like Apokolips suit? I know it's fun to joke around and say Batman can take Superman and Bruce has all these contingencies, and he might in the comics, but in a logical real life scenario (if both of these guys really did exist, which is the atmosphere DC creates in their movies), Superman would annihilate Batman without Bruce even knowing what happened. Sorry, but they are on two different levels. How this will translate into a silver screen live movie is going to be interesting to say the least ... and I'm not sure possible without being silly. DC has done a great job of making slower, quality, and more serious movies where as Marvel has made many more less quality films in the same time span - some of which are comical. I applaud DC for delivering solid movies, and would like to see them expand on other characters such as Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Power Girl, etc, but I'm very hesitant about how this one is going to end up.

Don't get me wrong - I want a good film and I believe in DC, but I was always sort of hesitant on them doing a Batman/Superman team-up movie. Great in comics. Not sure about in a live action movie with serious undertones.
