Update: Michael Bay Signs On To Direct 'Transformers 4'

According to the film's producer, 'Transformers 4' will have Michael Bay on board, may feature new cast.

We hope you haven't had your fill of big budget explosions because according to G.I. Joe: Retaliation producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura there will in fact be a fourth Transformers film and it is currently slated for a Summer 2014 release. Yes, your dreams of getting more Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee screen time has been granted. Up until just a few hours ago, however, one very important piece of the Transformers pie had been missing and rumors that the trilogy's director may not be returning for the fourth film were circling -- until now. According to the latest report, director Michael Bay will be directing the fourth Transformers film.

In a recent interview during a Hasbro event for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Di Bonaventura stated that a fourth Transformers film would be headed our way with or without director Michael Bay, but in a release soon afterward it was revealed that the director would indeed be returning to the franchise. The film's director wasn't the only thing being questioned, however. According to the Transformers producer there might be a few more shake-ups being made to the film's cast, too.

Michael had a debate because he sort of felt at first that he'd done three. Michael and I are both the same in that we always like to top ourselves. That doesn't necessarily mean bigger. It can be bigger in places, it just means different, but we're going to push really hard as fresh and new as we can be...[but] Michael's going to direct and it'll be in the summer of 2014...Again, we're going to try to do a hybrid there where there will be some characters that come forward--we think, we're still in the process of figuring it out--and some characters that don't, but it will definitely be a different story.

Based on a report from Deadline, the fourth film in the Transformers franchise will hit theaters on July 29th, 2014, it won't be shot back-to-back with a fifth film and it will also be a complete reboot of the franchise.

Again, it's a hybrid because it's a funny thing. I'm not involved with 'Spider-Man,' but what I perceive 'Spider-Man' to be is just a redoing of the whole thing. ['Transformers 4' is] not. It's an evolution. There's still continuity that's going on, yet there will be a lot of new cast," he said. "Whether there's anybody from the first cast, we don't even know yet. The trust is it's going to be a whole new story. The characters that would certainly come along are Optimus and Bumblebee, I'm sure."

So how about they just get rid of all the humans (that includes you, Shia) and make a Transformers movie featuring nothing but -- wait for it -- alien robots. That sounds like the kind of movie that fans of the original cartoon series definitely wouldn't mind seeing. Who knows? Maybe Di Bonaventura will kill off Shia LeBeouf just like he'll (allegedly) kill Channing Tatum in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. What do you think? If you were in charge of the Transformers franchise, what would you change?

I'm with you Sara, F all the filthy humans and make the movie about the actual title characters!

No humans and no Michael Bey would be a Transformers movie that might actually be worth seeing.

Posted by NightFang

Please let it be a reboot!

I was really hoping they would make a fourth one, and yeah, we don't need to see that many humans anymore. Let's have some more Decipticons come to Earth and mix it up with the Autobots. Ah! Good times! :)

I herd a while back that Speilburg wanted to direct the next Transformers

finally a 4th movie

I know people hate hearing this word in movies, but with transformers, a reboot would actually be needed.

These movies have been horrible. I have no desire to see them continue.

I dont think it would

I'm more towards LESS humans as opposed to NO HUMANS. The way the human/Bot interaction should be changed. Why the hell would a bunch of humans GO IN FIRST against a a bunch of GI-NORMIS robots when you have a bunch of GI-NORMIS good guy robots that can handle $#!+ themselves? Just because Bay was an idiot and couldn't handle human/Bot interaction doesn't mean another director couldn't.

@spiderbat87: Well megatron and starcream are dead.

Yea but there is plenty more bad guys in the Transformers Universe. For instance Unicron and his harbinger Galvatron also good guys like Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus should be introduced

Hell they could probably switch from the Autobots and Decepticons and go on to maybe the Maximals and Predacons. That would be a sight to see, badass robotic animals killing each other for survival

Exactly what I wanted to say. I despise the Transformers trilogy so much because they portray the humans as the main characters and not the robots. Sam Witwicky should never be included in the movies at all. He's useless. All his problems with the family, girlfriend and work are irrelevant to the Transformers universe.

Hearing the fact that Michael Bay will not direct the fourth film made me smile. Douchebag doesn't know anything about Transformers. All he cares about are explosions, boobs and cheesy humor - very little on story. I hope they get rid all the human characters as well and just focus on the Transformers 100%, just like the original cartoon series and the War for Cybertron video game.

I thought it was confirmed months ago that Michael Bay and Shia Labuff weren't returning. I read that online over the summer in an interview with him. That's the main reason he killed off Megatron in the third movie. He wanted to spite the following movies for continuing with another trilogy so he took away Megatron.

Instead of TRANS4MERS, I think they should just reboot it and give us the War on Cybertron.

@spiderbat87: I hope you're happy. Now I won't stand it until Grimlock or someone equally as awesome gets on the big screen lol

Yea its unnecessary, they just need to carry it on in a different direction

The thing is this isnt Spiderman were they just ran out ideas and they had to reboot, the Transformers movie is so vast they can go anywhere with it (you still got Unicron, Dinobots, and we no Megatron would come back as Galvatron). As for the human aspect well you need that who are they gonna protect, but I do want them to keep NEST

WHAT? NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO..

I thought it should have ended with the last one. I mean honestly how can they start a new movie with how the last one ended? Maybe Megatron going to have a second resurrection. Or maybe Skids and Mudflap will become the new Decepticon leaders. Or maybe Megan Fox was a Decepticon all along. If they seriously make a fourth one then it's going to be the Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull of the Transformers series. The only reason I might want a fourth one is if Ironhide gets resurrected.

And on a somewhat different note why did it have to be Ironhide? Michael Bay must of known Ironhide had lots of fans. And yet he kills him! And keeps the hormone sniffing doctor instead!
WHYYY??????

I guess some people really don't know when to quit, huh? ::shakes head::

I say put micheal bay in the film playing him-self and then kill him off in the first five seconds and then the bots leave earth for a space adventure and find aliens that look like micheal bay and they're robot eating aliens and they kill all of them that wouldbe a great movie

Edited by CATPANEXE

Even if he pulls out, Bay will return if the movie promises to pull in a large audience and much monies, specifically if theirs a promising script involved. Taking that from his previous maneuvers. Bay is already notorious for using his moxy to pull a film into his hands if it looks like it will get him props, Nightmare On Elm Street was a prime example.

As for only robots...I would like that, but I'll make 90% bet against that. The reason is the critics blasted the robot characters and focused more on the human performances in the previous films. Ebert was adamant about it and flat out ridiculed the Transformers characters for that matter. Just speaking, if it's not animated or full CGI, a script involving just robot characters doesn't have much of a chance of being approved. Added, if I've been paying attention to the fine details between the TF films and the GIJOE one, they've already conjoined both of these franchises into one continuity as usual, GIJOE having taken place after TF2 and possibly 3 (unsure), and it seems their trying to push for a cross-over film. That would help to explain a part 4 for Transformers which is somewhat abnormal at this stage in the game for it's series, which would be to keep the characters relevant for something else. Likewise it would be more logically to have human characters kept in then to interconnect a cross-over plot more smoothly (this human from TF knows this human from GIJOE, ect.)

* edit: the above written before Update when it was rumored Bay wouldn't be coming to the fourth. I would say, wow can I call them, but like I stated he's really predictable, lmao.

So there's a chance we'll have a good TF movie?

I liked the last one even though there were some massive plot holes that contradict the second and even parts of the first lol. Of course it should have been good since it was almost identical in plot to the second and you'd figure people would learn from their mistakes. Still I hope Michael Bay is involved because it would keep my hopes alive for a Transformers/Bad Boys crossover.

And we get ready for another Bayplosion fest in 2014. Kind of have a feeling that Lebouf isn't going to sign on for a fourth installment given the last two films didn't do anything to really further his career. Then again, he hasn't really done much since Dark of the Moon, right?

Posted by ARMIV2

I heard that they're supposed to be doing a trilogy. I think it'd be cool if they were prequels.

Most of the villains are dead..

Now they can bring Galvatron. To bad they used Nimoy for Sentinel Prime. I love the T.F. movies. All of them are great.

True, but with megatron dead, how would galvatron be introduced? Unicron? not sure if bay could handle a planet sized robot. Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus would be good if it meant that Optimus Prime stays dead in the fourth movie.

We could forget what they did to Scorponok --my favorite TF-- and have him lead the Decepticons in the new movie.

NO!!!!!!!

Oh well I think I'll just go back to watching transformers prime then instead...
