UNITY #5: Exclusive Cover Reveal and Info on Next Story Arc

Check out Matt Kindt's variant cover plus what you can expect in upcoming issues.

UNITY is just beginning but what a beginning it was. The first issue sold out but you might still be able to find a copy at your local comic shop (plus there's that Golden Ticket contest they have going). Looking ahead, it was revealed over at USA Today that UNITY #5 will introduce the next big villain in a three-part story arc called, "Trapped by Webnet."

Longtime Valiant readers might immediately figure out that Webnet means we'll be seeing Dr. Silk. Silk will be getting the modern reboot treatment and is bound to mean bad news for everyone. Writer Matt Kindt described what he has planned for Silk.

"I've put a lot of thought into [Dr. Silk] and one of the things that makes him interesting is that he's crazy SMART...not just crazy. So I'm really focusing on that, and hand in hand with that is his age," Kindt told USA Today. "He's kind of a withered old guy which implies a lot of history. So part of his intrigue is going to be what he's done in the past and how it's going to effect our present."

Check out our exclusive cover reveal for Matt Kindt's UNITY #5 variant.

Loved the first issue and am definitely looking forward to what comes next. I am trying to not read any solicits or anything as to not spoil the outcome of the first arc.

@perfect_10: That's the good and the bad thing about the way comics are solicited. Publishers need to pump things up for retailers to order before the cut offs. But that often leads to possible spoilers. Then again, readers also need to know if big crazy stuff is coming up as well so they don't miss out.

Wait, I thought Unity was just an event/Miniseries; is it actually an ongoing now?

Nope, thats what keeps bugging me about the coverage of this comic, Valiant has went out of there way to make sure pepole realise this book is an ongoing team book and not an event yet they keep covering it as if it's an event

You can jump right in. The first issue had a nice little summary that brings you up to speed and sets the scene for the book. All the main characters are pulled from other books, but you don't really need to be knowledgeable about the characters to get involved. (Harada and Livewire from Harbinger, Eternal Warrior who has his own series and has guest starred in Archer & Armstrong and X-O Manowar, and Aric and Ninjak from X-O Manowar).

If you want to read some background, X-O Manowar is the series that causes the events for where we are at the start of Unity. The last couple issues are a lead in to the series, but you can read issue 1 without reading them.

I highly recommend it.
