United No More: Read the First Pages of Marvel's Schism

Things are not looking good for the Mutants...

Yesterday we got a look at a crazy preview image of Wolverine and Cyclops going head-to-head, promoting Marvel's next big event, Schism. Today Marvel revealed three full pages from the first issue of Schism- and right from the get-go, it seems things are not looking good at all for the X-Men! Sometimes, the feeling of fear can be difficult to subdue- which may be why the government is confronting Scott and Logan with one of their most recognizable adversaries: the Sentinels. In an event that will surely challenge Scott Summers' leadership capabilities and create a partition in mutant-kind, this event is starting to look pretty interesting. Is it me, or do these images remind you guys of House of M? And hasn't Bolivar Trask recently returned in X-Force? Schism #1 goes on sale July 13th, 2011.

Be sure to check out the full preview below and let us know what you think Schism is all about!

Why do people insist on using the early Sentinels, they never work
Edited by wingster

Schism? They surely are running out of good x-over names...

Posted by xerox_kitty

The old 60's style Sentinel? I think it shows how scary they are that 3 were so easily destroyed in one panel alone.

I'm pretty sure Wolverine's line, 'So did we' was used in the 90's cartoon... or something very similar to it. It definitely has a big déjà vu vibe to it.

I hope that the Conference & the Sentinels aren't what they're making such a fuss over in Prelude To Schism. That'd just be a huge let down.

Cheap to build properly.

I feel like this is something that's so long overdue that I can't be bothered to get into it; like when Psylocke got her Kyle & Yost mini about revenge for something that happened nearly 30 RL years ago. It's like Carly Simon is holding a press conference to reveal who "You're So Vain" is about. I would have placed this somewhere When X-Force was chasing Bishop, Cable, and Hope around.

I think it is a clever name. Its obviously going to be some sort of event that will forever divide mutant kind, diverging the goals and future paths for those on either side.  >.>

@leokearon: The newer ones have a tendency to go all terminator

they're getting along just fine here... what happens next to cause the schism?

Edited by sora_thekey

This preview looks amazing I am excited for this since it will finally question Scott's leadership. For some time Cyclops was my favorite character but after he became stiff, arrogant, and cold-hearted I just felt that he needed to smile more. This might be sort of like when Storm challenged Cyclops for leadership and she took it from him. I wonder if Wolverine will become the new leader...

I got the same deja vu vibe but I thought it was from Wolverine and the X-Men...

Oh thank goodness. I was worried this could be written well. But Jason Aaron hasn't let me down. From the preview the writing is as simplistic and dull as I imagined it would be. The event shall follow suit.

Also, Aaron/Pacheco;

CYCLOPS' BLASTS ARE NOT HEAT-BASED (THAT SENTINEL IS CLEARLY MELTING)

With the apparent level of research already shown, I bet this will be a great depiction of Cyclops (sarcasm bomb).

It's tempting to go back & watch them now... especially as there are fewer W&TXM episodes than XTAS ;)

I'm excited for this mini-event. Hopefully it will not tie into Fear Itself in any way whatsoever, which is terrible.

Yeah there are going to be about five in Marvel alone this summer.

Guys its just a self contained Mini-Series. It's not crossing over into any other titles nor does it have anything to do with Fear Itself. And yes it could have easily been written into Uncanny X-Men. But I have a feeling it needed it's own book, and their is nothing wrong with it.

If most of you are that upset about the idea, don't read it.

And for those of you complaining about the writing, back off. Write your stuff and then pass it around to people. Writing isn't easy.

thats an arrogant thing to say. jason aaron has worked hard from the bottom up to get where he is, and hes not there because he sucks. he tries very hard to write the best comics he can, you can read about it in his CBR column. hes not the best thing thats ever happened, but dont act like marvel writers dont give a crap about comics. there's a reason some people get paid for things a reason others dont, and i have a feeling youll find it very hard to get paid for writing comics with an attitude like yours.

if you dont like the comics that are coming out, then go ahead and write your own. ill read it. but dont hate on people who work very hard to sharpen their craft and put the best product out that they can.

I'll hate on whomever I feel. The fact is, and I don't mind Aaron, he's far from the worst in the Industry (I'm looking at you, Bendis), they destroy characters. And comic books, unlike every other form of medium, have characters who have existed for decades, with that same amount of history. It's not difficult to acknowledge that history, and respect those characters. This series, with its apparent total lack of sense or forethough, is ignoring that history.

I couldn't care less if I don't get paid to write comics, there are other things I have plans for.

what about character development? characters change over history, especially almost 50+, and they have to have some new stories. it cant be similar people over and over again, everyones personality changes at one point or another due to different events.

Yes, they do, naturally. But Cyclops and Logan engaging in fisticuffs after Scott has singlehandedly saved the Mutant Race is like something out of Nickelodeon show. There's no reason for it, it's childish, and it goes against the respect the two have for each other that's grown over 30 years of comics.

How are the Sentinels even relevant after the massive battle that happened in Second Coming? The X-Men fought an army of NIMRODs from the future and this is what they are supposed to be afraid of? Shouldn't the guys who are left over from Bastion's group be out making little faux-Phalanx style Sentinels by now? This is so typically retro and boring. I'll wait for the cliff notes.

how can you say that before you even read it? you have no idea whats going on with this story or how it relates to nickelodeon. give it a chance and try to bear the "lack of respect" to see if its a good story or not. isnt that what we all want? good stories?

O_o I was wondering the same thing....

But okay, let me get this straight. From what I just got from the preview, someone has framed Mutants (or just the X-Men) and Cyclops is trying to calm the Mutant hating public but everything goes to hell when random sentinels show up? O_o From the looks of it I don't think the public was planning on listing since they brought a truck full of Mutant killing robots with them. Also since when does Wolverin come to these kind of things with Cyclops, I mean I can understand if it was the core X-Men all with him together, but it's just the two of them, why? It would have made sense if Emma was there instead standing next to Scott.... <_<

Either way, it feels like the same X-Men story. Mutants screw up. people hate Mutants, X-Men fight for Mutant rights....why would this of all the times cause Wolverine and Cyclops to suddenly hate each other, I mean sure they've had issues in the past but you would think after so many years of fighting side by side they would have put that behind them now... =/

People who complain without knowing what the hell is going to happen deserve not the time of day... if you boycott a comic, fine... no one cares. It's like the people who boycott and bitch about ASM... That said, I don't know how I feel about this one; I will probably wait until there are some reviews to make my decision based on people who HAVE actually read it...

Am I the only one who feels Wolvie's torso is far too wide in the last frame? It looks really bad. I hope it's note a taste of things to come for the rest of the event. But I'll read it regardless.

We know that Cyclops and Wolverine are going to have it out. We know this is stupid, based on 30 years of continuity. We know that Marvel don't give a crap about their characters at the present time, and are far more interested in delivering sub-par products to idiotic masses than producing intelligent stories. We know enough to complain.
