Ultimate Comics Avengers #2 Reviewed

G-Man reviews the second issue with Cap doing a little hanky panky.

Ultimate Avengers is beginning to get interesting.  I enjoyed the first issue but despite Mark Millar and Carlos Pacheco being involved, there were a couple things that I wasn't quite sure of.  I did want to see a little more.  Even though things are still being set up in the second issue, we are starting to see more pieces of the puzzle.

I'm not going to lie, when I first saw the Ultimate Red Skull, I really had my doubts.  His big revelation left me questioning Mark Millar's intentions.  After reading this issue and seeing his 'origin,' I'm starting to like the character.  His origin does work and does open the door to new possibilities.  Captain America has always pretty much been portrayed as a big boy scout.  During his time in the Ultimates, he didn't seem quite the man that the 616 Cap is.  Here we see that he's not exactly that boy scout.

While part of me wants to see the Ultimate Avengers in full action, I'm starting to enjoy the suspense.  With Nick Fury back in the game, there's no telling what he'll have up his sleeve.  And the fact that Hawkeye will be part of it just makes things that much sweeter.  So far this series seems to be focused on Captain America and the Red Skull but I'm trusting that Millar will give us some other surprises.  Things are being set up and Carlos Pacheco is doing a great job giving us the visuals.  This does feel like a new series for those not familiar with the Ultimate Universe.  You do get the feeling that anything goes and that's what the Ultimate Universe was supposed to be about.  We have our familiar characters but we have no idea what's going to happen next.

What did you think of Ultimate Red Skull's origin?  What do you think Cap will do when he finds him?  Will the Avengers being able to prevent these two from killing each other?

I'm hoping to pick up this issue sometime this week, I do like where this is going though, the story is real interesting and looks like it could become something much bigger

Nick Fury: Hawkeye's the only cool one anyways.

I am not a big fan of Marvel but I actually like this book. Not a lot happens but it's interesting and keeps me wanting more.

@geraldthesloth:
Hawkeye is the cool one (in the ultimate universe).

Don't hate me but I had to go to Wiki to find out Ultimate Red Skull's origin.

I must say that's pretty interesting. I had a feeling that's what probably happened to his face, looks like I was right.

I really really like ultimate red skull's origin it's a pretty cool little twist, well it's a helluva lot better then the original red skull origin anyways where hitler randomly picks a bell boy to make his apprentice. This story is a fun read and millar is kicking it's @$$

To be perfectly honest after reading Ultimate Avengers 1 I was ready to give up on it, the only thing that drew me back was the very end when he revealed that Cap was his father. And then when I leafed through the second issue it changed my mind totally. The Red Skull's origin was probably the best origin story I've read in awhile.

One question I have is, has Stark's brother been mentioned before in the Ultimate Universe, or was this the first issue he appears in?

I still think it's cheesy but regardless, I like it.  I think it has nice potential even if it's cliche.  Who cares as long as we get some kick-ass fights between them.

I don't recall hearing about him either.  With the sporadic nature of Ultimates in the past, I'll admit that I sometimes forget minor details like this.  It just kept breaking up the flow.

I thought that RED SKULL's origin was similar to MICHAEL MYERS' original origin sort of.  He concocted a psychotic, master plan.  And THIS Red Skull seems to be way more crazier.  His origin says it all.  I really like the first 2 issues .  I'm glad it's on-going in comparision to the ULTIMATES mini-series, which never came out on time.
