Tom Taylor Takes over Earth 2

The mind behind INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US will soon write the popular DC title.

Well, it looks like writer Tom Taylor will now juggle two of DC's alternate universes! According to MTV Geek, the INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US writer will jump on EARTH 2 after creator and writer James Robinson leaves with issue #16. Meanwhile, series artist Nicola Scott will remain on the title. Both Scott and Taylor provided MTV Geek with a few remarks.

"I've had so much fun working on Earth 2 with James Robinson over the last year. While I'm sad to see him go, I'm really looking forward to exploring the ever expanding mysteries of the title. I'm even more excited about moving forward on this journey with my great friend and fellow countryman Tom Taylor! Not only a charming guy but a great talent to boot. She continued, I can't wait for everyone to see what we have lined up!”

--EARTH 2 series artist Nicola Scott.

"I'm a big fan of what James and Nicola have created so far with Earth 2, and I'm honored to be adding to this world, with its rich characters and its many mysteries. Earth 2 is entering a new age, and I'm thrilled to usher in this new age with my good friend, and fellow Australian, Nicola Scott. It was good of DC Comics to give Australia our own Earth to play with. We'll try not to wreck the joint."

--Tom Taylor

Issue #17 will land in October. Do you think Taylor's the right man for the book, Viners? Speak your mind below!

I was about to drop this book. But since reading this, I am intrigued...I think I am going to hang on just for a bit longer. See if Taylor does any better.

@deadpool25mm: Talking about curing the gays, are we now? Really? "Cure the gay away" ect, all that chat? Inferring that gay people behave like animals otherwise? You're a fascist crackpot bud, have a ball. I'm done here.

@hit_monkey:
First, Im not a kid.
Second, I like it that you try to convince yourself that you're right by saying : " ignorance", "How old are you mate? You sound like some idiot kid with that kinda verbiage.", "imbecile", "Your a sodding disgrace.",
makes you feel good? or you realy believe that...

I quit reading Earth 2 after issue 3 if im not mistaken. I want to jump right back in, trust me I loved the book until the point where Alan turned gay. YES I do have something agaisnt gays but its not in the way you think, Im not saying that we should push them out. I see it as something wrong, something that shouldnt click together, Im not saying there is no such thing but we are human beings not animals.. if a man has urges he should learn to control them, there are people who can help them be normal, many have turned back straight.

@catsnlynne:
I never said it defines who Alan is.. he is a made up charcter so it doesnt realy matter. But I'd prefer if they want to make a Gay hero comic they should make a new charcter and not use old ones.

@deadpool25mm: Your ignorance is pretty astounding pal. Your arguments are something a child would present. A nasty, bigoted child at that. I mean this -

"male+male , female+female = less people."

Aside from it's inherent nastiness it's also completely stupid. Are we underpopulated on Earth at the moment? I don't think so. In fact are we not bursting at the seams with people? Do we have a pressing need to make more? Also there are hetrosexual couples ( that means male+female by the way) who can't make 'more people'. Under your logic that invalidates them being together. Which is obvious bollocks.

all the other stuff you've said is really horrible too. People are more tolerant of the gay community because they have seen what segregation and degradation of a community of people does. The horror, pain and misery it brings and they think at the very least "what if that were me?". MOST people are equipped with something called empathy. It's not because they feel like they have to shut-up and deal. Oh please.

By far the stupidest thing you have come away with is when you compared two guys in an adult, consensual relationship with themselves. To a guy having sex with a goat. That's so absurd I can't believe someone would seriously come out with that. How old are you mate? You sound like some idiot kid with that kinda verbiage.

Also I do have "limits". Everyone does. Just because I'm not a homophobic little tosser like you doesn't mean that I'm capable of absolutely anything in the bedroom as you inferred. Don't be ridiculous. Your views are obscene, you come across like an imbecile and nothing you have contributed to this thread has any value whatsoever.

I don't think you're an Alan Scott fan (hey if you're going to toss about your baseless theories so am I). I think that the only reason that you've taken an interest at all in the character is because he's gay in Earth 2 and you don't like gay people. You already admitted that you think ANY character being depicted as gay would be a bad thing in you eyes.

You're just a homophobic ass who is feigning past interest in a character. So you can justify your complaints about a depiction of him as gay without sounding like a complete bigot. Your a sodding disgrace.

Very well said. Alan Scott being gay shouldn't define what kind of person he is. I'm a fan of Alan Scott and started reading Earth 2 because of him.

@hit_monkey: progress?, puting those stuff in comics is just wrong, most people arent gay and dont want to read about those stuff. people today are starting to shut up because they think there is nothing they can do anymore but just "accept" it.
male+male , female+female = less people.

You'll agree with anything because if not you wont be "open minded", soon some people will say that a man can go with a sheep and its okay, in the begning people will look at them weird, then people will have to accpet them for who they are.

You see, I have an open mind but it has a limit, if you dont have limits you'll end up doing realy stuiped thing and try to justify them with your "open mind".

@deadpool25mm: That's not very nice buddy. I wouldn't mind if ANY character in Earth 2 were gay. As long as they were interesting to read. To be frank mate,what you're saying (in this day and age especially) is a bit not on. You're entitled to think whatever you want but.. Well, this -

"well sorry but im not liking the idea of puting storys about a guy who kiss's and dreams about another guy, Friendship is one thing, but being gay is just.."

A bad thing to say. No two ways about it. Comics are for EVERYONE, even the gays. It's cool if they want to have new gay characters or have a gay version of a character in an alternate continuity like earth 2. If it brings new dimensions to the characterization of superheroes in comics. Then it's brilliant from that standpoint alone. Not to mention bringing a certain measure of equality to the world though comics. It's called progress.

@deadpool25mm:

"one million mom", is that you ?

seriously, Alan scott is gay in the new 52, get over it.

Alan Scott always had a nobility and sense of honor that stood him above many heroes. He was the inspiration that led to many mystery men taking up the fight .

Alan was the type of selfless individual who always put everyone before himself.

he is still the same man...

Okay lets start with: one million mom? Im guessing thats another guy who doesnt like gay Alan?

and I cant get over it.., would you get over if in the new reboot they'll make Dr. Fate gay? Is he to main charcter for you? ok so how about one of the Robins, you wouldnt mind if they turn one gay?
well sorry but im not liking the idea of puting storys about a guy who kiss's and dreams about another guy, Friendship is one thing, but being gay is just..

My point is if they want to make a charcter gay (which im against) they should make up a new charcter for it, not take an existing one and just turn him gay.

Well if you want me to write it: Gay Green Lantern Earth 2.

It sucks that Alan Scott is gay now. I prefer him as he was.

I'm not going to blame Taylor for the Injustice comic, because I'm sure he was just writing what he was told to write. At the same time, James Robinson left the book presumably because he didn't like the mandates DC was pushing upon him. Clearly Taylor has no problem writing whatever DC demands. I hope he does a wonderful job, and I hope Earth 2 remains both of high quality and successful, but when the switch happens, I'm still leaving too.

i lost interest when batman was reintroduced. this announcement might just make me drop the book. i'll give it a few issues after the change to see what's up, but i think i might be done too.

Sad to see Robinson go...sad

Earth 2 is my favorite DC series right now and I really hope Taylor will keep it that way. I do enjoy his Injustice though and the fact that Nicola Scott will remain on the title makes me hopeful and excited! ;p

this is bad news. Earth 2 was just fine with the writer on it now. I hope DC doesn't pull a Marvel Ultimate.......X-Men, Ultimates, or Ult. FF with this change. Taking a good writer off, and killing the book.

One thing to absolutely keep in mind: this is an alternate reality book. Don't for even a moment try to think of these as representative of the "real" characters. People who try to do that are the ones who have least enjoyed it, from what I've seen.

Definitely will keep that in mind. Thanks for the recommendation, always willing to give new books a try.

@johnny_spam: this is sort of how I feel as well. I don't think anyone writes with a "modern golden age" vibe like Robinson and that's what I love about e2 now. Also not reading injustice but the reviews have been solid so might as well give it a shot. Kind of glad to see someone I'm not familiar with take on the book rather than a big namer who might just change everything for the sake of changing it.

You should fix that. It's a great read -- probably one of the most consistently highly-praised titles from both reviewers (not just on CV) and readers. Despite the fact that a couple people on this thread randomly said Injustice is bad (or terrible), note that they haven't actually given any support to those statements whatsoever. Taylor is a very talented writer who has done a great job with a massive cast, has real emotional power in his pacing, and has even written a few characters better than their current New 52 iterations.

Thanks for that, will definitely give Injustice a try now.

I do not believe Taylor is bringing back the Big 3. He's quoted as a big fan of what Robinson has done. I think this article just has an unfortunate cover image especially considering what's happened on Earth 2.
