Todd McFarlane Teams Up With Rob Liefeld On Spawn #196

The two Image founders and Image United collaborators join forces.

For the last year, Spawn: Endgame had been running through the title.  Readers have been kept on the edge of their seats with the game-changing story featuring the death of Al Simmons.  We've also seen the return of Todd McFarlane, illustrating his creation.  In this month's Spawn #196, Endgame concludes with a bang and McFarlane shares art duties with fellow Image founder Rob Liefeld.

“I was looking for good artistic help, and remembered inking over Rob on his New Mutant covers back in the Marvel days, and most recently a little bit of IMAGE UNITED," McFarlane said. "I thought it would be a fun experiment to see what Capullo layouts, Liefeld pencils and my inks looked like together on a handful of pages.”

In the conclusion, reporter Marc Rosen connects the miracle patient stories to the new Spawn, Jim Downing.  At the same time, detectives Sam, Twitch and Rowand uncover the association between Downing's awakening, Bill Winston's suicide and the Nortego crime syndicate.

Spawn #196 will be on sale November 25 with a $2.95 price tag.

I seriously need to catch up about 200 issues of spawn, anyone want to donate books they don't care about anymore? pretty please.

Spawn really needs to shave his back hair.  Look how long it's getting... that's rediculous.

This is the worst thing to happen to comics since Rob Liefeld.

Wish I could say I still follow Spawn. Got about ten or so trade paperbacks which I think take me up to issue #50 or so. In Britain its hard to get collected editions beyond that for some reason.

The only time Liefeld's pencils have looked semi-decent is when McFarlane or Kesel inks them. Kesel had to draw in his own feet and hands because Rob could not be bothered to do them himself. That was on DC's Hawk & Dove volume 2, I believe.

@G-Man: Really? that image is disheartening.
