ThunderCats Episode 6: "Journey to the Tower of Omens" Clips and Images

It's a race between the ThunderCats and Mumm-Ra to find the Book of Omens.

The new ThunderCats series has been different from the original yet still retains enough similarities. From what I recall, the original felt like it was all over the place. The new series shows the Cats on a mission. And that mission is to find the Book of Omens.

This Friday, August 26, Cartoon Network will premiere an all-new episode, "Journey to the Tower of Omens" at 8:30/7:30 Central. The ThunderCats must pass a series of obstacles in order to finally get the Book of Omens, but Mumm-Ra is hot on their trail. Lion-O must stop him from getting the book first, for the book will lead whoever finds it to the Stones of Power.

Here are a couple video clips courtesy of Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network.

soooo conflicted with this show, they wow'd me with the first 2 eps then they pushed out 2 pathetic episodes ripping off moby dick and making me pull my hair out with the aging plant people and now 2 episodes in a row that look great...hopefully it wont be a routine of 2 good 2 bad...

This is a prequel to the original series? Which is why Lion-O looks like a Final Fantasy character now?

No it's not a prequel. It's a reimagining.

I really used to like the original series. It was a combo between Star Wars meets Cats the Musical meets Legend(80's movie)/Lord of the Rings.  I just hope they bring back the space opera-like elements back to the series. I thought it was a really cool aspect of the original series. I'd hate it if they phased that part out.

My problem is what happened to the Thunderean people? Were they massacred, enslaved, are they in hiding?  Shouldn't Lion-o's priority to lead his people? I know I'm nitpicking, just curious. Did I miss something?

I also hated the Moby Dick episode, but I actually loved the plant people episode. I thought it was really deep.

I never watched the original, but this new series is freaking awesome.

Mumm-Ra gains bat-like wings upon transformation?  There's a change that I don't mind.  In fact, it seems kinda cool.

I dug the original and I completely approve of this new version. It's got similar elements but also completely different in other ways. I love that my daughter digs this as well.

@xybernauts: The plant episode (written by J.M. DeMattis) was indeed deep. Me and my daughter had a great conversation about 'living a lifetime' and all that afterwards.

@xybernauts: I agree I hope it gets more sci fi as it goes.

I really really liked the original, I grew up watching it so I freaking love me some thundercats.

So far I'm happy with this, it's not mind blowing good, but at least it doesn't suck. And it's a new take on the story which I can appreciate, yet it still has a lot of similarity with the original. And Snarf doesn't talk!!!

We'll see how the series goes...

I grew up on the original 'Cats..so there are some elements I miss, like Panthro not being bad ass as the original, and not sure if I like Tigra being the older brother of Lion-o using guns?

But I do like the idea of there being a entire planet were all animals lived and not having the 'Mutants'
Their is plenty of interesting apperances and spins on the original show I am looking forward to seeing Snow-meow and the Lunatiks in future episodes

Andrea Romero ( sorry for the spelliing) has done it again, with Willy Kit and Kat coming off impish and mishievous siblings, and snarf is not nearly as annoying this time around! lol

While Voltron and Transformer Prime have disappointed me
and my verdict has not come in on Gi Joe:Renegades yet

all I can say 80's lives on
Thunder Cats...Hooooooooo!!

As a child of the 80s who was raised on the original, I must say... I AM LOVING THIS NEW SERIES!!!!

I am really enjoying this new show.  I loved the original and I like the update very much.  Cheetara is still my fave!  :)

I'd kind of like to get into this. Does anyone know if the episodes are on HULU or some legal online site so I can catch up?

This show is absolutely great! Great storytelling, good lessons with out having to shoehorn in a moment at the end to explain it, good action and building a very good mythos.

And is anyone else getting the feeling that both the ancient Thundercats of myth adn Mumm-ra were from another planet. The Dark Pyramid is technological, it was hinted in the dialogue that the old stories from the Book of Omens told of technological airships, and those same Thundercats sealed Mumm-ra away in a stasis chamber, I'm thinking there was a planet Thundera and maybe even a planet Plundarr (though all of them coming from the same planet works too) and their ancestors crashed on Third Earth centuries ago.

I guess this is a good example of be careful what you wish for. I really don't like the direction this series is going in.

They are crippling the series for me. And the series started off so nicely. It's killing the show for me.

Ironically I really like the direction they have taken Voltron Force, Transformers Prime, and G.I.Joe Renegades. They aren't perfect, but atleast they are developing nicely. Voltron Force is the best because it build on the original series as opposed to starting from scratch. I love the use of solid holograms aka force in the series and the development of the functions of the Voltron robot. GIJoe is good because it seems to be the GIJoe origin story. I dislike that they have made alot of the Joe's who've made cameos into average citizens but it's possible they show will grow out of that. And Transformers have had nice developments. Finally they have created a version of RC that you can take seriously and the shows are decent., Not as good as Beast Wars or G1 or G2, but not as bad as some of the other series that they have had.

New Mumm-Ra still appears to poses powerful dark magic or maybe I have to watch some of these episodes over again.

The series overall so far has me torn much like the Original Poster, The first two episodes were phenomenal and the third was forgettable (although I liked it much better the second viewing). They lost me at not disarming the Thundercats upon capture.  Cheap and lazy writing is the only explanation I can think of. The Plant People episode wasn't as 'kick-ass' as the first two but I did appreciate the philosophical factors involved. Having said that, it was kinda boring. I really dug the Grune and Panthro backstory that helped fill in some blanks and I thought they did it in a smart way, a way that didn't take me out of the story with a plot-device.
