Throne of Atlantis Animated Movie Confirmed

It looks like Aquaman is about to get some major attention in the DC Animated Universe!

Quite a few people weren't very happy about Aquaman not being included in Justice League: War, but the credits scene delivered a major teaser and implied he'll have a big role in the animated universe's future. Additionally, it was previously confirmed (by Geoff Johns on Twitter) that Arthur Curry would indeed play a bigger role in an upcoming DC animated movie. Naturally, many of us began to suspect Throne of Atlantis would serve as the inspiration. Not only was it a relatively recent event in The New 52 universe, but it was thoroughly awesome, too! Aquaman's world was front and center, yet the action-packed story still managed to incorporate the Justice League quite well. It has so many cinematic and epic moments, so it's no surprise they've selected this to serve as the inspiration for a new animated movie! According to the back of Batman: Assault on Arkham's box, the movie will be called Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.

What do you think about this decision, Viners? Is there a big moment from the story arc you really want to see in the film? Share your thoughts with us below!

If you haven't read Throne of Atlantis yet, check out its page here on Comic Vine to learn all about it. And yes, we recommend picking up the trade!

Batman: Assault on Arkham goes on sale August 12.

:)

If the dialogue is good and they keep the awesome moments in the arc. Then I'll be satisfied.. Also good animation.

When is the release date?

Posted by MrMazz

Please don't be an underwhelming plot driven mess like the last two features.

His own animated movie, being cast in B Vs S and two ongoings. Man, is Aquaman feeling the love these days!

Can't wait! When can I pre-order this?

Wasn't this already confirmed?

Didn't know AoA was out, something new to watch tonight wooh.

Aquaman will be replaced by Cyborg in his own movie.

We were told Aquaman would eventually get his time in the spotlight and the credits scene in Justice League: War implied this would be the story they're using, but the actual project has never been officially confirmed/announced... until this image, that is.

It comes out in August. I'll add that to the article to avoid any potential confusion.

I haven't been pleased with the last couple DC animated movies. Still, I plan on giving this a go. Throne of Atlantis was a great story.

Honestly, I am disappointed in this idea of releasing slightly tweaked versions of recently printed stories, it just seems lazy. Plus it's not aided by their picks of pretty dreadful stories to base them on.

It is not really lazy. Its a waste of time, I'd personally have them remove whats needed to make the duration there but keep the story understandable and action scenes great, rather then rewrite the story in their "tweaked" versions which usually include stupid plot like a war started over jealousy or bad dialogue.

You said "so much" implying on a lot of showings of PIS and how was the magic lightning KO'ing the league PIS it was showing what his sceptor was capable of.

I would think because WW is pretty much immune to magic and later in the story Aquaman tanks the lightning no problem.

@justthatkid: you said 'like .....' meaning you wanted an example. i gave it. a huge example. i don't want to remember more of that garbage.

@justthatkid: I wasn't aware JL: War had a plot?

Alien Invasion..

Short Summary: Establish ties between the youngest characters that is not to coincidental. Introduce characters, instead of build motivations and relationships, throw in corny lines, make the main protagonist less likeable and more douchy then the threat. Have a robot voice the main Antagonist.

Superman: Powerhouse, Wreckless

Batman: Strategist that no one listens to

Wonder Woman: Warrior with incredible skill who enjoys ice cream.

Flash: I found him likeable, other then the wrench scene which makes WW's sword and Aquaman's trident look pointless.

Green Lantern: Douche

Cyborg: One of the useful characters actually in this. His backstory feels rushed and makes the character look like a annoying idiot.

Shazam: The Power battery cause what Half Human/Half Robot doesn't have one, annoying kid.

These DTV films went downhill after Bruce Timm left, so I am not really interested. The writing hasn't been good or compelling or mature like JLU. The animation style looks too anime and has a lot of noticeable flaws... The absence of John Stewart irks me. *Sigh*, I want to be a fan again, but things need to change first. At least I can go back and watch the old stuff.

That story arc was garbage and if Justice League War is any indicator, this movie will suck too, so I don't have any hopes for this movie. :/

Those were two different sets of lightning if you look back at the story Orm obviously was able to change the voltage of it.

If you notice one set of lightning comes directly from his sceptor which is purple which he states Batman is fragile after using it. The one he used on Aquaman, Superman and Wonder Woman came from the sky and was blue. Probably why Batman wasn't added to that scene is he's less durable.

The Lightning that Orm later uses on Aquaman is purple also but theirs more volts then the one he used on Batman

Also the purple lightning is thinner whereas the blue is thicker.

-.- If it makes you excited, Hal shouldn't be here and they'll have Black Lightning show up possibly.

Nice! I enjoyed Johns' run on Aquaman and Throne of Atlantis was pretty cool. I liked that Aquaman was not a joke anymore. This is the guy that stopped the Crime Syndicate in the Earth-2 graphic novel. Aquaman and J'onn J'onzz made the difference.

Posted by RulerOfThisUniverse

This was sort of obvious by the last scene of War, but that's still pretty cool.

You know, I am not a fan of the art style of the DCAU. I couldnt watch batman & Superman because I didnt like how they looked the same. But when I finally did, it was awesome. & while today 20 years later I still am not a fan of the style, it is still the BEST compared to everything else DC has released in terms of animation. Granted I have not seen all the one-shot movies, only anything posted on Netflix. I just finished S1 of YoungJustice, nearly 10 years later , DC's animation still isnt any good. & I think Marvel is actually uglier.

American animation needs to realize that if they want to compete they need to put more detail into it like most anime's do. Anime is not perfect, but at least the characters look better most of the time.

Unless they just want to target the little 5 year old kiddies who dont have the money & after 5 minutes no longer give a darn because something shiney/new just caught their attention.

& of course giving all the girls a large pair of bouncies & panty shots wont hurt either.

It's time to listen to some Aqua music.

This was the only good Justice League story but that's only because it was tied into Geoff John's Aquaman run.

Posted by NukeA6

And of course, I'm talking about the New 52 because there a bunch of good Justice League story arcs before Flashpoint that should be and have been animated movies.

Posted by Fallschirmjager

Don't really care for US animation - at all - regardless of the company but I'll watch it if its good. Hopefully it is cos Arthur

Posted by AllStarSuperman

ugh. so much pis in that story.

This. The only way to make people stop under rating Arthur is to start overrating him.

Posted by ccraft

This is cool, I mean I liked the comic, so the animated movie might be good too.

Edited by Justthatkid

Can I please get some decent examples of this "PIS" everyone is saying is in the arc...

-_-

Posted by Krypton-115

Cool! The comic itself was really cool, the tease at the end of Justice League War gave it away... still, can't wait for assault on arkham!

Posted by SupBatz

Please, please, please be better than Justice League: War and Son of Batman. Get back to character driven plots rather than these hour-long action scenes that are for some reason being labeled movies.

I hope that some aspects from New 52 Aquaman's first arc are incorporated into the film (namely, the way that the world views Aquaman as a joke). And I pray that the animation and voice acting better than JL:W and Flashpoint good.

All in all, it's exciting to see Arthur get the spotlight. Hopefully he'll end the streak of piss poor animated movies.

SWEET!! Can't wait to see some footage! :D

Aquaman should have been in Justice League: War.

Posted by Aliltron

Heck yea I'm pumped! Isn't it going to act as an origin story too? Hope Mera is in it as well!

Posted by Lone_Wolf_and_Cub

Aqualame should never ever be the center of attention unless its to be ridiculed. I just hope he talks to fish in this soon to be stellar DCU installment.

Posted by dagmar_merrill

Kind of seems like a waste to me.

Posted by AmazingWebHead

Oh yippee. Another animated flick that DC is using to distract us from how lazy they are with real movies. Well, at least this one will be about Aquaman.

im glad they chose aquaman....guy still gets no respect from the plebs after all this time

Edited by Vaeternus

Nice, now perhaps the AM fans who cried a river or "ocean" over JL War haha see what I did there? will be happy now :)

I will pass though, not a huge AM fan. FTW, JL War was awesome.

@ Amazingwebhead, how are DC lazy? lol their DC animated movies, games are far better then Marvel's lol. And DC's past few films were really successful so don't know what you're smoking lol. If anyone's lazy it's Marvel crappy shows like MAOS and Agent Carter? Because we totally care about that character...lol
